WASHINGTON -- Opponents of Judge Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the Supreme Court suggested they would consider it a victory if more than half of the Senate's 40 Republicans voted against her in this week's confirmation hearing, as the GOP grapples with how aggressively to challenge the nominee. Many Republicans said they viewed 23 "no" votes as a benchmark, because that would be one more than Chief Justice John Roberts received in 2005 and would reflect a significant protest vote. Others said that if the Senate GOP were to split roughly in half, that would signal support to conservatives who oppose Judge Sotomayor without angering Hispanic voters with a wholesale dismissal of her nomination.

Newsflash: Diogenes still looking for an honest man in D.C. too.
Why not vote against her, if you find her statements and apparent “judicial philosophy” unseemly? Nothing to lose.
Yeah boy. I’d sure be a fan of a football team who’s goal was to lose by only 20 points. Go team go!
That’s what ‘m say’n!
IF NOTHING ELESE IT WOULD ‘GALVANIZE’ OUR SIDE: (And possibly peel away a few of “them”)..
If they get 20 No votes, they don’t lose by 20, they lose by 60.
Usually “calling” implies a phone number, not an address!
The ones that are up for re-election in 2010 will vote no, the rest will vote to confirm. What a bunch of losers.
Ugh!
Oh no! The Hispanic people won’t love us!
The GOP is too scared to vote against this racist woman in fear they will be called racist.
Forget the core principals GOP, we don’t want you to upset any small group that does not and would not ever vote for you in the first place.
See number 4
Vote against her and tell the Hispanics you don’t pander under any circumstance and she ain’t looking out for you! Simple as that!
So its going to be 80-20 to put the racist on the SCOTUS?
I hate the Republican Party
She couldn’t even hold up the EEO Law which is a Democrat boondoggle put into law by LBJ. Those flunkees were affirmative action hires. She’s an affirmative action hire. It’s time to push back against socialism and racial justice disguised as freedom.
80% of GOP senators support the racist Sotomayor. Not even 20% of GOP senators support Palin. Go GOP! LOL!
