Anyone who attempts to defend or justify the hateful comments made on the Malia thread really has a serious problem with their moral compass. 2 wrongs do not make a right and I personally am tired of hearing the comparison to what the Left has said about the families of anyone on the Right. The fact is, it is IRRELEVANT what the Left has said. When it comes to what WE SAY and what WE DO we should SET AN EXAMPLE of language and behavior for ourselves, our families, our country. There is a difference between being strong, and sticking up for yourself and your family and your country, and turning into a bunch of foul-mouthed hateful people like I saw on that thread.

And to the poster who says the Obama kids are fair game because their parents have thrust them in the spotlight- are you for real? You hold the Obama’s responsible and deal with them directly, you don’t call the kid names or compare them to whores because their parents are commies taking this country the wrong way or because you don’t like that the press and the fashion world drools over every move the family makes.
As parents and a family the Obamas are responsible for their children and their kids need to mind the parent authority. One can only hope those girls grow up and are smart enough to educate themselves as to the real nature of things. But it is not “child abuse”. As a parent I certainly wouldn’t want anybody terming it “child abuse” if they didn’t like whatever abbreviated version of history I felt like giving my child when we visited someplace.

If you are referring to ME, please have the courtesy to ping me for a response. I never said the obama girls were fair game. I SAID we were not the ones who thrust them into the spotlight. I SAID their parents are to blame. Not ME, and NOT Free Republic. I ALSO said that it is the left that has been reprehensible in dealing with the children of pols, and that posts like YOURS makes it real easy for them to look over here and assign blame where none exists.
Just how, exactly, does anything I said even BEGIN to imply that I think the obama girls are “fair game?”
I said what is being done to these girls by their parents is CHILD ABUSE.
Get a grip. Methinks thou is protesting wayyy too much.

You and Yaelle are speaking the truth. FR has definitely become coarser lately with large amounts of bandwidth wasted on commenting about peoples appearances. If it wasn't for crude words, or their not so cleverly disguised acronyms, some posters would have nothing to say.

If conservatives want to be seen in stark contrast to liberals, they can't appear to stoop to the level of liberals. Whining that "well they say even worse stuff" is juvenile and will win no converts to conservatism.

I might not let my children dress like the Obama children, but I also would not let my children speak as some crude FReepers speak.
