Jack Bull writes:

“Where are all the longhand notes and drafts on yellow pads for Obama’s books? No author throws those away.”

Exactly.

And, just like the birth certificate, Obama could resolve this in one day by releasing the documents to the public.

I did not mean necessarily books. Reagan wrong hundreds of brilliant speeches on every issue of the day, which contain timeless wisdom.

"Indeed, the most pervasive malady of the collegiate system specifically, and the American experience generally, is that elaborate patterns of knowledge and theory have been disembodied from individual choices and government policy."

--Buraq Mohammed Hussein Obama, 1983

You could enlist the help of a platoon of Bill Ayers types, along with that of a whole battalion of Jon Favreau types, and you still wouldn't be able to do two things with the aforementioned piece of rancid dreck:

1. Make it readable, and

2. Get it to make some kind of sense.

Jack Cashill is right. The person responsible for stringing that sentence together just plain doesn't know how to write. Period.

I doubt Obama remembers that, or very many his age.

I don't doubt he lies at the drop of a hat, but he is quoting someone else in those lines.

He's quoting, but he's using it to make a point, and the quote puts the age group involved squarely with Obama: too young to remember the Cuban missile crisis from JFK's administration. And, the whole quote is fishy. Kids weren't doing air raid drills, but drills for nuclear attack via Soviet ICBMs. That's what the Civil Defense drills were about. And I believe those ended in the mid-sixties or early seventies.

This is not an important point, but this quote supports what I remember: that the hey day of the Civil Defense drills was during the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations, that they played out in the mid-60s. So, that Obama quote doesn’t fit the historical sequence of how things happened:

“After the Limited Test Ban Treaty of 1963, civil defense all but disappeared, not to be resurrected until 1979 when President Carter, apparently motivated by a false report that the USSR was building a large civil defense program, combined all civil defense actions, including protection against natural disasters, into a new organization called the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In the 1980s, during the Reagan years, high federal officials again called for a large civil defense program that would sponsor a mass evacuation of people into rural areas if war seemed imminent. As in the early 1960s, the plan quickly faded in the wake of massive public resistance.”

It's a quote Obama used, and it does not fit the historical sequence of the Cuban missile crisis and the emphasis on Civil Defense drills of the fifties and sixties. People who can't remember the Cuban missile crisis are very unlikely to have participated in any school drills of the sort that were common during the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations. Those drills ended a year two after the Cuban missile crisis. Maybe this guy participated in such drills at age two. But if he was younger than Obama, born after 1961, it's very unlikely.

It seems to be a condition many liberals have: convenient memories that can recall most anything that allows them to claim personal knowledge or experience on a subject, whether or not they were even around when they'd need to have been.

Darryl Lorenzo Wellington, the author of the new (Summer 2009) article Autobiographical Fire and Obama’s Creation of Self, never addresses the question of Obama's authorship; indeed, he appears blissfully unaware that there is any controversy about it at all. Wellington begins the closing paragraph of his hagiographic Obama-panegyric as follows:
The quality that most distinguishes Obama’s writing is its clarity. It sparkles like sugar crystals. His writing feels balanced and just. Although not meticulously systematic, it proceeds with the lucidity that characterizes a legal mind. His thinking is marked by a bright, positive, and outward-looking unselfconsciousness.

Bill Ayers must be squirming with jealousy. One day that terrorist is going to want to take credit for writing Obama's memoirs...

He'll probably release those once the sped up aging process has been completed in a secret laboratory.

I had this vision of someone making this statement reading from a script on a tv screen, and all of a sudden a giant boxing glove appears from one side of the field of view and slams into the side of the narrator's head.

I don't know why that occurred to me...

JB, this is an old story. Of course, The Anointed One did not write the Oprah-Book-Club-worthy pot boilers in which the messianic Kenya/Indonesia Tom Sawyer version of his life is delineated. Literary analysts long ago fingered Bill Ayers.

It's not that Bill Ayers is a Hemingway, it's just that the sentence, grammatical, and thematic structure of Obama's great works are identical to Ayers' previously published works. In fact, some of the "stories" are damn near identical.

Me? I read Obama's books, and I am here to tell you that Bill the Bomber does yeoman work. It could be a KGB (or CIA, for that matter,) "legend." What the books cannot be is true. Aside from these literary aspects, there is the damning fact that left to his own devices, the man is an incoherent spouter of ridiculous circular logic.

It's all part of the mystery, like the use of a series of social security numbers by Obama and his mother over the years. Let's hope more of those foolish enough to have voted for him come to their senses and admit their mistake. Fortunately, it doesn't require a lot of them to do that to start getting him gone.
