Dear Patricia Graham - Editor-in-Chief, Vancouver Sun:
I thought that in Journalism 101, Mr. Chris Parry would have learned that if you can't be bothered to get the small facts right (such as the correct spelling of the names of your antagonists) then the rest of your reporting is automatically suspect as well.
Apparently Mr. Parry also forgot that another good rule of journalism is to actually try to interview the people you are covering but it appears he couldn't be bothered to interview Jim Robinson (not Jim Thompson) or Kristinn Taylor (not Kristin N.) about their operating philosophy, how abuse buttons work and who responds to them, or how they moderate or don't moderate threads from day to day. If he did try to do so, he should have put a comment "reporter attempted to contact so-and-so for a response but requests were not returned before press time" but somehow I doubt he interviewed face to face, over the phone or via email exchange with a single soul before writing this tripe.
I also do not recall your paper writing a similar article about Democratic Underground or the Daily Kos exposing the daily vitriol, redneck jokes, knocked up jokes, etc. they spew about Gov.Sarah Palin and her children, who are the same age and younger than Pres. Obama's children.
If this is what passes for good journalism in Canada these days, then your paper (and Canada) are doomed.
Sincerely,
Tamar1973 on Free Republic
Well put.
You've documented some real problems in the MSM.
I have said for years, many of today's MSM employees are skid marks on Journalism's shorts.
