Candidate Obama - No Signing Statements From Me….That Was Then, This Is Now
Flopping Aces ^ | 07-11-09 | Curt

As if creating Czars to control vast sectors of our country, firing Inspector Generals when they don't give a pass to his policies, and transferring the controls of the Census from where it should be to his Administration wasn't enough evidence that the man doesn't care what kind of promises he made yesterday, because it was all to get elected. Now that he is in power he just utters "nevermind."

Via Hot Air comes this reminder of what candidate Obama said about the use of Presidential Signing Statements:

Questioner: When Congress offers you a bill, do you promise not to use Presidential signage to get your way?

Obama: Yes

Obama: What George Bush has been trying to do as part of his effort to accumulate more power in the presidency is he’s been saying ‘well I can basically change what Congress passed by attaching a letter saying I don’t agree with this part or I don’t agree with that part, I'm gonna choose to interpret it this way or that way...uh, that's not part of his power. But this is part of the whole theory of George Bush that he can make laws as he’s going along. I disagree with that. I taught the constitution for 10 years. I believe in the constitution, and I will obey the Constitution of the United States. We’re not going to use signing statements as a way of doing an end-run around Congress....alright.

Yeeeah:

"Obama, “I believe in the constitution, and I will obey the Constitution of the United States....”

Maybe he wasn't lying.

Maybe he meant after he re-writes it according to his superior wisdom and experience then he'll follow it.

I see no problem here... He’s claimed all along the Constitution is a living, breathing document and that must mean it’s changed its mind, and informed our Obamassiah of the new direction it wishes to take!

Everything Obama does represents a lie in some form; either a lie he is telling now or a lie he told in the best.

In this case his lie is that he believed GWB violated the Constitution. Obviously he did not believe what he said, but he said what he did, at the time, for its political value, not its truth.

Congress, especially the current leader of the House, has the misguided notion that Congress is the “supreme law” of the land. Its not. The Constitution is.

If a president, any president, in their duty to uphold the Constitution, believes some act or some measure of an act of Congress usurps the separation of powers, in a manner that degrades ANY Constitutional power of the executive, the executive has a duty to say so. Sometimes this may involve using the veto. Sometimes it may involve something the president puts in a signing letter.

Am I defending Obama, in this instance or any other? No.

I am only saying “Congress” is NOT the supreme law of the land and a POTUS must act accordingly, or the executive will be neutered.

“I taught the constitution for 10 years.”

If the Kenyan Pretender believed in our Constitution, he would produce a valid and genuine Birth Certificate

Just like Clinton, Obama does so many things that are questionable, that when we keep bringing it all up, we sound like Kooks just looking for a reason to bitch.

Gos help us, we are really in deep with these Nazis
