The Joys of Quitting

Braggadocio Jones

July 10, 2009

Say what you want about Sarah Palin, the lady sure knows how to make an exit.

For future reference: Call a press conference just before the Fourth of July to rival the fireworks. Brag about your achievements, damn your enemies, drop wild crazy hints about your future, give three weeks notice. Then: Go fishing, grant lakeside interviews to stunned journalists in your waders.

Oh and, this is important -- don't forget to smile.

The Alaska governor is fully capable of flashing fake smiles but these are the real deal. Palin is beaming right now because she knows something that the politicians and the pundits will never, ever figure out.

Most of the Palin speculation is so beside the point as to be really side splittingly funny. Will she run for president? How will this affect her chances at getting the GOP nomination? How about the general election? And why? Why did she do it? I have the answer, though many of you won't believe me.

It's been said that the two most precious words in the English language are "not guilty." Close but not quite. The real winning declaration has got to be, "I quit." That's right, you say. Chuck it all. I don't want to put up with this anymore, and I don't have to.

In most of the world, human bondage is in the ancient past. Yet we feel bound to our jobs. Our sense of obligation or necessity or simple inertia keeps us there long after all the joy has been squeezed out of the work. Why?

We cling to our rationalizations...

Snip

In the meantime, we keep at it. We put in long, tedious hours because we feel that we must.

Until something snaps...

This is getting ridiculous!

I guess America would have been better off if George Washington had quit when America needed his leadership the most... or if Abe Lincoln had walked away from the Presidency 2-1/2 years into his term.... or if Reagan would have resigned after getting shot.

Walking away from a challenge and quitting a position of trust given you by the people, is flat-out wrong. Serves no good purpose and solves NOTHING!

You mean when he quit after two terms, refusing to run for a third?

Heh. I’d be delighted if Obama quit, or just about any other Democrat for that matter.

That was just plain interesting. And easy to apply it to other aspects of one’s life. Thanks for posting it.

Concerning jobs. Even though I didn’t quit mine, there is an aspect of trusting God through changes - I was one of the very, very few (if there were any others) who was excited about the future when it was announced that our plant was shutting down and we were going to get laid off. Though there were times I wanted to quit that job, I decided I’d let the Lord tell me when it was time to move on. The plant closing was that message to me. With total faith in my Lord, I strove forward - through return to education and completing it with honors, through cancer surgeries and recovery, and to a new job. And now I have the total pleasure of doing my job from my home.

There’s no question in my mind Sarah did what she needed to for Alaska’s sake. I really believe she has that strong trust in God to lead her where He will. When you have that, it’s SO easy to smile!

"Other journalists in the 13 Colonies agreed that George Washington was finished as a military leader. Among the old, dull journalists with one less thought each year, it was decided beyond a reasonable doubt that Washington by dropping out of the militia had ended what might have been a promising career."

Bump!

Well, just to be fair,
if Lincoln had walked away
the Constitution

would still be intact,
States could secede, run themselves
without the Fed mess . . .

I think Palin is going to spearhead a national movement or organization, something like a moveon.org. We don’t have anything like it and that’s why we are losing the war. If this is her plan, I’m behind her 100% in mind, body, and POCKETBOOK.

I think she already is, it's just not formalized yet.

Hah!

I don’t think Sarah Palin’s quitting, I think she’s just beginning to fight.

It’s pretty clear she does not look upon RINO’s favorably, God bless her for that.

By giving up the Gov spot she’s got an additional 18 months to start bringing people together who really care about our country.

Yes, and the proof of that is her detracters are still sniping at her. They know she's just getting started, so their fear of her still consumes them.

I agree with you, Hildy. I just hope against hope she will not be drug into campaigning for McCain here in Arizona, but I fear she will feel she owes it to him, even after his campaign treated her so badly (more proof came out yesterday that they hung her out to dry after she followed their orders and she never did go rogue as they claimed)... unless the book Meghan is writing trashes Palin in the chapter Meghan keeps teasing about on Twitter.

This is a great cartoon.

BTW Newsbusters and Wallstreet Week both were 90% Palin today and musing that she is done, etc..... and it dawned on me NO ONE was talking every single day about Obama three years out of 2008, and most people thought he gave a good speech in 2004, but was years away from being qualified for POTUS. People dis her now at their own potential future embarrassment.

IMHO, he's still years and years away from being qualified. Till then, if ever, he'll recite the words whoever is pulling his strings puts in his mouth.

Freedom and happiness are the two most precious things in the world.

Much more important even than health, money or power.
