New Curbs Set on Arrests of Illegal Immigrants
Revamped 287g Program Will Target Only Serious Crimes, not Minor Infractions; Sheriff Arpaio Refuses to Ease Up

The Department of Homeland Security said Friday it was revising a program that authorized local police to enforce federal immigration law -- a controversial aspect of U.S. border policy.
In San Diego, illegal immigrants wait to be deported to Mexico at a gate next to the pedestrian border crossing into Tijuana last month. About 800 people are deported there every day.
Opponents said the program, known as 287g, was intended to identify criminal aliens but instead has led to racial profiling; it allowed local police to identify and arrest illegal immigrants for such minor infractions as a broken tail light. Program supporters said it has been an effective tool for combating illegal immigration.
The new guidelines sharply reduce the ability of local law enforcement to arrest and screen suspected illegal immigrants. They are intended to prevent sheriff and police departments from arresting people "for minor offenses as a guise to initiate removal proceedings," according to Homeland Security. The program will instead focus on more serious criminals.
"In a world of limited resources, our view is that we need to focus first and foremost on people committing crimes in our community who should not be here," said John Morton, Assistant Secretary of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Mr. Morton said his agency would sign new contracts with local law enforcement that would bolster federal oversight.
In the past two years, more than 120,000 suspected illegal immigrants were identified through the program, and most ended up in deportation proceedings. By comparison, ICE removed 356,739 illegal immigrants from the U.S. during the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2008 -- a 23.5% increase over the 2007 total.

The way you catch the big, serious criminal is when they do stupid things, like drive around with a burned-out tail light. Homeland Security has its head up its arse all because the Democrats think this is going to get them Hispanics votes.
The message Democrats are sending to all U.S. citizens, loud and clear, is that Hispanics are all criminals and scofflaws.
Washington continues to encourage the breaking of our laws — when it is politically expedient for them.
Homeland “Security” needs to free up more of its people to go after those nasty, bible clinging, gun toting conservatives.
It's pretty easy to find such people around here if you know what you're looking for. First, there's the LOW NUMBER special license plate from "back home". Plus, they were suits to drive to and from "work".
Just for fun when you bring the family out to visit the Smithsonian and such see how many Congresscritters you spot. You'll see, they stick out like sorethumbs.
Now that's just the Congresscritters. There's this Chicago crowd, and they've been renting and buying houses in Central Springfield since January. Bunch of 'em.
They'd be squealing like little piggies if MS13 were to commit some of those minor offenses against them ~ and they will be ~ 'cause the Obamistas from Chi-town are living cheek to jowl with MS13 and they don't even know it ~ yet!

Exactly right. They have no loyalty to any American political party and have higher aspirations. They will wag their tail at the stupid Gringo hand that feeds them. The “Reconquista” is alive and well.
They already have their own party and Justice about to be named to the Supreme Court, LaRaza. What do they need with us? These Congress critters can’t give our country over fast enough. However, this time if they pass amnesty; it will truly be their jobs and all the goodies they will say bye bye to and they will have to live like the rest of us poor people.

Hello open borders. Non enforcement of immigration laws will lead to open borders. The rats are pressing hard for amnesty with a fake concern for border security. They will put forth a bill that calls for wall construction and amnesty. At the same time, they have stopped interior enforcement. The amnesty will be accompanied by extended family reunification and more illegal immigration. With no fear of deportation after eluding border security, illegals will flood across, mindful that another amnesty will be enacted.
