All these people voted for Obama and now all they get is a 'rubber' chicken who's come home to roost! :-)

Good grief...The UC system has several hundred TENURED professors who have retired on the job but the UC can’t fire them. They don’t pull their weight and the system won’t let management get rid of them. A pox on their house.

This is an indication of things to come... ie people getting less $...and will hasten the downfall. When Betty can’t buy diapers and Joe can’t by starbucks, things will get ugly.

It will get worser and worser until California reaches “rock bottom”.

Only then will they pull themselves out using common sense... that would be spending way less.

I mean just how effing stupid do they have to be to not recognize AND FIX it?

The California State University system is tackling and expected $584 million cut in state funds by not accepting student applications for its 2010 spring term.

Noting the typo, I assume the author is a product of the California college system. Besides that, I notice that they are going to reduce losses by reducing the number of students. If they'd operated under a sensible system, the way to reduce losses would be to increase the number of students. However, they've managed to create a system in which more customers means more losses.

Tenure is a Leftist institution so that all the flaming Libs teaching CAN'T lose their jobs and they don't even have to go to work. Look how tough it was to get rid of the phony Ward Churchill. I have a friend who teaches in the CSU system. Long about February she called and started babbling about how glad she was she had tenure so she won't be losing her job. I said ‘yeah, and the Teachers Unions gave so much to Obama that you all will have jobs forever’. I haven't talked to her since.

Face it—even if they did agree on a common sense solution (a big IF), some judge would strike it down as unconstitutional. The elephant in the room is unions, pensions, entitlements, and illegals and everyone knows it. But any attempt at reform will be struck down by the powers that be. In the end, however, even a Judge can’t make a dead horse dance pull a cart. Its going to be interesting.....

Many unemployed probably wished they had had tenure with the companies they just left. Can someone explain the reason why some professors should be assured of lifetime employment?

It’s a Leftist conspiracy to make sure our children are completely indoctrinated in the classroom.

Sure will be interesting with the IOU’s too. SEC involved.
The CA universities are top heavy—need paying students and much less tenured staff and admin jobs. No more platinum benes after retired. I don’t know if they will come to their senses on the illegals. Politicians love the illegals.

Its not just the tenure. At many high-end public schools, professors may teach two (or even one) class per year. Of course, they are also expected to bring grants into the University which helps offset their cost. If really successful, they may pay for themselves and then some. That’s why many universities care more about a professor’s research prowess than teaching ability.

Hooray! The people who most likely voted for demo-rats are now being laid off. Maybe they should ask for there campaign contributions back.
