U.S. Said to Have Averted Inquiry Into ’01 Afghan Killings

WASHINGTON — After a mass killing of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Taliban prisoners of war by the forces of an American-backed warlord during the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan, Bush administration officials repeatedly discouraged efforts to investigate the episode, according to government officials and human rights organizations.

American officials had been reluctant to pursue an investigation — sought by officials from the F.B.I., the State Department, the Red Cross and human rights groups — because the warlord, Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, was on the payroll of the C.I.A. and his militia worked closely with United States Special Forces in 2001, several officials said. They said the United States also worried about undermining the American-supported government of President Hamid Karzai, in which General Dostum had served as a defense official.

My only question would be, “Are you sure they’re all dead?”

...an American-backed war lord...

That's pretty weak tea. So, the Afghans were killing each other. Big surprise. Sounds like the guy was doing us a favor.

Otherwise, all those nasties would have been shipped to Gitmo, just waiting for 0bambi to set them loose.

So, the Afghans were killing each other.

Something they have been doing - in job lots, since the 1700s.

We are just the latest of a very, very long line of suppliers, enablers or supporters.

Or victim, if that is a view.

This is a move to tie up the GOP in show-trials so the current administration can stay under the radar.

It is a way of criminalizing politics.

If they opposed the war in Afghanistan, then they in effect support the crimes of the Taliban, but they do not want to investigate those. If they opposed bringing Saddam down, they in effect sided with him. But they will not be subpoenaing his torture videos any time soon either.

This kind of political show trial is a one way ratchet, only to be used on the Left’s enemies. The day we fall for it is the day we lose. Unless we want to reply in kind. They want to bankrupt our guys with endless investigations? Start bankrupting some of their guys doing the very same thing. They don’t want to debate their opponents, they want to bankrupt them, jail them, drive them out of the public space altogether. This is way past patty-cake.

They need a lesson in civility and you deliver it by exposing them, and by making them take their own medicine and choke on it.

America does not care... nor do I... kill all that are not our friends... there are no civilians in Afghanistan... only allies and enemies.

Oops...the "bad economy" 24/7 coverage which worked so well to bring Bush down beginning in mid '08 is killing Obowma now.

So we're back to the attempts to re-ignite the "bad WOT" 24/7 coverage against Bush which worked so well for the Dems for about 5 years.
