Man shot during $3 robbery is convicted

A man who tried to a rob a group of university students at gunpoint at their apartment on East Oltorf Street in October got away with $3, an opened pack of cigarettes and a bullet in his abdomen, prosecutors said.

John Crayton, 26, was convicted Thursday of six counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and one count of burglary of a habitation for the Oct. 11 incident.

Prosecutor Amy Meredith said Taylor Englert was hanging out with friends at an apartment about 3 a.m. when he heard a gunshot from a closet near the front door. When Englert opened the door to investigate, Crayton jumped out and ran after him, Meredith said Thursday in closing arguments.

Witnesses said Crayton hit one person on the head with a pistol and forced another out of bed. Crayton lined up four men on the ground at gunpoint and found only the $3 and a partly empty pack of cigarettes before hearing voices from another bedroom, Meredith said.

Crayton kicked down the bedroom door and saw Travis Phillips holding a loaded pistol, according to an arrest affidavit.

Phillips shot Crayton in the stomach to protect his girlfriend, who was also in the room, and Crayton responded with two shots into the wall, Meredith said.

With the way the liberal courts are now days, I'm surprised Travis Phillips didn't get arrested for legal possession of a handgun, unsafe discharge of a handgun, attempted murder and whatever else a liberal prosecutor would have thought up.
Good for Phillips for protecting himself and the people around him and this also proves possession of a weapon is safer than handing them all over to the Marxist president and his kool aid drinking followers.

Phillips needs to learn that, if it is time to shoot, the situation is dire enough to go ahead and perform the "Mozambique drill" (double tap to center of mass and one to the head). Had he done so, Crayton would not have got off those two wild shots that endangered everyone in the area...
