Soldiers 'dying because of cuts':
Brown starved forces of cash, says ex-defence chief
MATTHEW HICKLEY 10th July 2009
Attack: Lord Guthrie said the lives of British troops in Afghanistan were endangered because of cash shortages
A former head of the armed forces yesterday accused Gordon Brown of endangering the lives of British troops in Afghanistan by starving the military of funds.
In a devastating personal attack, Lord Guthrie said that under Mr Brown the Treasury had spent 'the minimum they could get away with' on defence.
The resulting shortage of helicopters in Afghanistan has led to more British soldiers being killed by roadside bombs, the distinguished commander claimed.
It indicated 'the unsympathetic view the Chancellor of the day and the Treasury had of defence when Britain went into southern Afghanistan in 2006', he added.
Lord Guthrie, a former Chief of the Defence Staff, also accused the Treasury of harming the 'operational safety' of our soldiers by blocking British commanders' recent requests for more troops to fight the Taliban.

??? WTF??
Lord Guthrie is a profoundly honorable man as well as a brilliant soldier (and in his day a very dangerous one). If he says it, it is true.
For a second, I thought the soldiers were dieing from cuts, and I wondered what sort of wierd infections they were getting in those istan places.
Or the cuts were forcing them to dye their clothing or their hair??
I worried about this because on FOX a day or 2 ago they had a report from an American General who said his men do not have enough help from the Afghans, they need more troops. And with the action that is going on they are spread thin. Also, having problems with water. I hate how this is going. So many brave soldiers, but they are being left hanging on a thin string.
Brown’s fault. Sack the sack of...
I heard that today...I was thinking to myself: Are you kidding me??? How hard is it to get some water to these guys? Incompetence.
My first thought was Bactine and Band-Aids.
