OTTAWA -- In a clear indication that Canada is starting to be considered a low-tax place to do business, Tim Hortons Inc. announced Monday plans to shift its base of operations from Delaware to Canada for tax purposes.
Further, analysts indicate this is also a sign of unease among corporations regarding the U.S. business environment, where taxes are likely heading upward to deal with trillion-dollar deficits and proposed health-care reforms; and the White House is looking to crack down on companies that invest abroad.

The exodus has been going on for years
Unemployment will continue to rise....
Way to go Democrats!!!! Let’s see how much more business we can drive out of the country!!

Yes. Ingersoll Rand several years ago relocated to Ireland.
And their solution? TAX THE WEALTHY AND GIVE $500 SAVINGS BONDS TO NEWBORNS.
If that doesn't show you how ridiculous things are getting nothing will and very scary.
Wow - never seen Canada and low taxes used in the same sentence before.....
I remember when Bob Rae (NDP, a.k.a. socialist) was premier of Ontario. Buffalo area posted signs thanking him for all of the businesses which left Ontario and set up shop in New York. Guess the tide may be turning. Sorry about that, but good for us.

Good for Canada and Steven Harper. He stood up to the leftist thugs when they tried to steal his victory. The GOP could learn from him.

Decades.
Tim Horton’s wasn’t a Canadian company? WTF? I have never seen one in the US - are they just back east? I know they are all over BC, but have never seen one south of the border.
Wendy’s and Hortons were one company for years, I had stock in them. They split, and both have been very profitable investments. I love Wendy’s food.
You know, if it wasn’t going to take me out in the process, I’d have to say that America’s collapse will be the spectacle of the millennium.

I know Ingersoll Rand just bought out the Trane Co. from I think American Standard. (could be wrong about the AS) anyway, I thought Ingersoll Rand was a German Co.
All I know is Trane products are a lot cheaper now under Ingersoll Rand ownership.

I was engineering manager at a subsidiary plant that they had acquired. For a year and a half, they led us down the garden path, then sent part of the operations to China, and the rest from Indiana to North Carolina. They are the biggest union busters and the most bloodthirsty takeover artists in the US.

They do tighten up on sloppy production. That is a huge part of their success. I implemented a lean manufacturing system that nearly halved the manufacturing costs of pneumatic cylinders.
Tough buns. I wound up wandering in the braze industry for several years until I would up west of the Mississippi.

My kind of guys!
Best of luck to you working for Corporations that don’t make a profit.
Let me know when you find one.

Oh please don’t misunderstand me. I acknowledge that they have the right of ownership and operations. I don’t hold that against them. I am just kind of wistful, though. Within a year, we put that plant into the black and the profit curve looked pretty impressive. But no, I don’t hold that against them. If I did, then I would be obligated to start my own Ingersoll Rand or equivalent. :)
