Burris Won't Run in 2010
House Chairmen Thumb Noses at White House Health Care Deal

Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) will announce Friday that he will not seek election to a full term in 2010, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Burris office issued a press release Thursday evening saying the Senator would make a major announcement Friday during a scheduled speech at the Chicago South Loop Hotel. However, his spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
Burris decision is likely based on his inability to raise the millions of dollars necessary to run a statewide campaign, the Sun-Times reported. His fundraising report for this year is expected to show only about $20,000 raised, the newspaper added.
Since he was appointed in December to fill the seat of President Barack Obama, Burris has been a political pariah for accepting the job from disgraced former Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D), who has since been impeached and indicted for trying to sell Obamas seat for campaign cash and political favors, among other things.
Rep. Mark Kirk (R) has told supporters that he plans to run for the seat, while Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, one of the Democrats best hopes for the race, has decided to run for re-election and will not run for Senate or governor next year.
National and state Republicans are expected to quickly coalesce behind Kirk once he officially announces. Democrats, meanwhile, appear headed toward a bloody primary fight, which already includes state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias and Chicago Urban League President Cheryle Jackson. Plus, businessman Chris Kennedy is expected to enter the race in the coming weeks.
What is the difference between Mark Kirk, a pro abortion anti gun cap and trading RINO vs. the democrats mentioned?
Maybe sitting this one out and having Kirk lose will teach a lesson to some..
Dude, it’s Illinois. Who do you think they are going to elect. Think about this, a vote for Mark Kirk is a vote against Harry Reid as Majority Leader.
Right...especially when Obama comes campaigning in his old hometown. Republicans shouldn’t even spend a dime there...WASTE.
Given his betrayal on cap and trade, what makes you think he wouldnt make a “principled decision” /s and support Reid or some other liberal democrat?
Will the Democrats be forced to run a Black to replace Burris?
Wait a minute. I thought he had funds to buy his seat from Blago a few months ago. What’s changed? Did he get clipped by Maddoff? Talk about somebody not ready for prime time. The dems need more candidates like this dude.
Has he been there long enough to get his full retirement? How about that lifetime health care?
Never let a crooked appointment go to waste.
I was at the Palatine, IL Tea Party on Saturday. Whenever Kirk’s name was mentioned, a loud chorus of boos were heard. Not too many people (IOW, clear-thinking conservatives) want him in the Senate. They would prefer the unemployment line for him.
Probably there’s several states where he could run as a Republocrat...
I have to wonder if Burris has seen it.
A black Republican, Dr. Eric Wallace, is running. Please read his site, www.wallaceforillinois.com.
I live in Rep. Kirk’s district (Northfield), and I’m glad that he won’t be my congressman, starting on Jan. 3, 2011. I hope that he’ll lose the primary to Eric Wallace.
I hope that State Rep. Elizabeth Coulson will run for Kirk’s seat. A Roll Call article states that she’s considering the race.
Yes. And yes. From day 1.
The Messiah will clear the field for his buddy, Alex Giannoulias.
No...and no. Burris gets nothing from his 2 years of Senate service. But he's got a fat pension and benefit package from his Illinois offices so he's pretty well set up.
