Two people involved in an apparent human smuggling attempt are dead after the SUV they were riding in drove into Zacate Creek at about 1 p.m. today, according to emergency personnel.
Another two occupants of the vehicle were pulled out of the creek alive.
At about 3 p.m., Border Patrol, Laredo Police Department and Laredo Fire Department officials were on the scene at Zacate Creek, in an area where Marcella Avenue dead-ends a few blocks from Chihuahua Street in the old Azteca neighborhood.
Emergency crews were in the process of determining whether there were more occupants of the vehicles.
The SUV took off when its driver spotted Border Patrol agents patrolling the Azteca neighborhood, said Roque Sariñana, supervisory Border Patrol agent with the public affairs office.
It wasnt until agents were in the process of apprehending five undocumented immigrants the SUV had left behind, that they realized it had gone into the creek, Sariñana said.
A group of about 10 people who appeared haggard and tired came up to Marcella out of the creek at about 1 a.m. to an SUV waiting at the corner of Marcella and Guatemozin Street, the neighbors said.
About half of the people had boarded the SUV when sirens sounded and the vehicle took off, said neighbor Nancy Esquivel.
The SUV went straight for the bank and into the creek without swerving, she said.
Esquivel said the SUV was in the creek before she saw Border Patrol agents on the scene.
What’s also interesting is the way the evil SUV drove itself.
The ACLU will sue the border agents for contributing to the deaths of these fine, upstanding folks who simply wanted to do the jobs Americans won’t do.

Are these guys just naturally bad drivers? It seems like every few days we see stories of a load of illegals getting killed.
The coyote only wants to get away and doesn’t care how many people die in the process.
