Panetta Admits CIA Misled Congress on “Significant Actions”

CIA Director Leon Panetta told the House Intelligence Committee that the agency had misled and “concealed significant actions from all members of Congress” dating back to 2001 and continuing until late June, according to a letter from seven Democrats on the panel.

The letter was dated June 26, two days after Panetta appeared before a closed door session with the committee and it asked that the CIA chief “correct” his statement from May 15 that “it is not our policy or practice to mislead Congress.”

This will be convenient for Pelosi, but I wouldn’t be surprised if CIA lied to congress every single time it was called on to testify.

Congress can’t keep a secret. They leak like a sieve.

You can have a CIA that shares every detail with congress or you can have a CIA that is actively rooting out people that want to harm the USA. You just can’t have both.

Party loyalty always trumps patriotism with Democrats.

Up against the wall, Leon.

Hey guys, tomorrow's the start of hearings on the CIA reauthorization and the Republicans are planning to demand Nancy produce some proof of her CIA statement.

What should we do?

Leak a lying letter to the media that says Panetta "admitted" misleading us?

That should work, but we're on the Intelligence Select Committee, wouldn't that be a dereliction?

Who cares? Right! Let's do it!!!

Don’t believe a word Panetta says. Another Clinton re-tread.

The fact that he was Clinton's head of OMB who got promoted to COS when FOB McLarty couldn't handle the Washington load isn't all that is required, one only needs recall how Newt Gingrich made it from back-bencher to Minority Whip to know that Panetta is nothing but a liar and a cheat.

I am seriously curious as to find out how he knows the CIA did all this lying "dating back to 2001" when he wasn't there.

This is a clever resolution of the issue. Nancy skates; Leon takes a little fall and blames the entire situation on the Bush administration and his lack of knowledge because of his lack of tenure on the job.

There’s a difference between not telling Congress everything and not telling the truth to Congress.
