The media was throwing around estimates of up to 750,000 people expected to gather outside Staples Center for the Jackson memorial. There weren’t even 7,500, and probably quite a bit less than that (I’ve heard as few as 1,000 people).
So it’s possible that there were more LAPD officers deployed than actual people in the crowd.
Perhaps the grief over Michael Jackson’s death was not as pandemic as the media was saying?
They kept telling people NOT to go there unless they were one of the recipients of tickets for admission, that they would be better off watching from home. I guess people actually listened this time.
They had a lot more cops than they needed.
They probably should have treated it like a Lakers game.
