Folks, Kern County isn't a particularly large county in terms of population. But - this is kind of a mind boggler. The County had threatened to shut down a jail and lay off employees. It's a genuine Homer Simpson moment.

I listen to KMJ so Kern County must be around here somewhere...so it’s small enough that I didn’t even know it existed.

Hey, if it goes bad, they can just print up some IOUs and wait for a federal bail-out. No worries.

It’s just south of Fresno County, next to Tulare County. You pass through Kern County on the way to Morro Bay on Hwy 41 and on the way to L.A. on Hwy 99.

If I opened my billfold and it had $50.00 I know it was not my billfold! Unemployed will do that to you.

Not to worry... Kol-ee—forn-ne-ya state legislature will confiscate it and issue them an I.O.U. They know what’s best for you farmers... just ask a few delta smelt.

"We didn't know where were by about 35 million dollars and that's a real concern." A real concern is that this isn't even English.

It’s agricultural area (used to be dairy). Wiki says its bigger than Connecticut, so I guess it depends on your definition of small...

Kern County is (was) home to Buck Owens and the Buckaroos.

Kern County is north of Los Angeles County. As you travel up the 14 Freeway, you know you’re in Kern because the road surface is suddenly smoother.
Kern is also one of the places in California where it’s possible to get a concealed carry permit.
