WASHINGTON - A widespread and unusually resilient computer attack that began July 4 knocked out the Web sites of several government agencies, including some that are responsible for fighting cyber crime, The Associated Press has learned.

The Treasury Department, Secret Service, Federal Trade Commission and Transportation Department Web sites were all down at varying points over the holiday weekend and into this week, according to officials inside and outside the government. Some of the sites were still experiencing problems Tuesday evening.

“I propose all internet servers be government owned.”

I assume you meant to have a /sarcasm tag after that?

Now we have to deal with SPAM. If the feds take it over then the USPS can deliver email!!! It will cost 25 cents per recepient per message and 50 cents if its high priority! It will take 24 hours to get there and you will be limited 100 words!

No computer system is unhackable or immune to these types of attacks. And, if you think we’re not doing it to the Chinese, well....

Today’s DDoS attacks spoof IP address. Also Most routers only support ACL (Access Control Lists) or 100 lines or less. Most DDoS attacks generate IP Adress lists in the thousands.

However, if we were to cut off say China until they agreed to play nice I would be happy. I suspect that would po a lot of people around the world and I doubt we have the stomach for it.

Government could also preempt all private use of the internet from 11:59 pm to 6:00 am while they transmit unspecified data.

And, and, and, they could require that the entire internet switch to digital so we all have to buy converter boxes!

Ah, just shut down all computers and go back to the good days. I’d miss FR, but otherwise the world would be better.

I wasn't taking about botnets that require large lists of random IP addresses. Simply entire countries. I believe countries can be denied access by simply telling the root level routers to not route the traffic originating from the particular country in question. That would also end that country feeding their bots additional instructions.

But I agree, I doubt we have the stomach for it... But if we really were under serious attack from a specific country we could and should do it.

That’s nothing, within hours of taking office, Obama’s own staff dismantled the old White House website and put up a broken rewrite with tons of broken links.

So long as the TOTUS scripts and his Myspace profile are okay, Emperor No-Clothes isn’t worried.

I thought the libtards hated the Patriot Act, but that doesn’t make any sense, right?

Cyberattacks against the government.

The hackers may be wanting to send ‘messages’ or even ‘direct threats’ to the government.
