"Birther" Republicans running risks?
Politico ^ | 7/7/09 | Glen Thrush

Posted on 07/07/2009 5:43:41 PM PDT by pissant

You'd figure that the seven House Republicans who have signed on to Bill Posey's "birther" bill requiring the filing of a birth certificate with pre-Presidential filings would be from far-right, lock-solid GOP districts.

You would be wrong, according to an analysis conducted by the folks at Campaign Diaries.

In fact, Barack Obama -- the target of HR 1503 -- lost Posey's Brevard County, Fla. district by only a couple of points -- and Posey himself narrowly held off his Dem opponent with 53 percent of the vote in '08.

Irvine Calif. Rep. John Campbell runs the biggest risk: Obama narrowly won his district.

Only two of the birthers -- who apparently doubt the authenticity of the documentation Obama readily provided during the campaign -- represent slam-bang McCain '08 districts.

Bill Posey (FL-15) 51% McCain

Marsha Blackburn [TN-7] 65% McCain

John Campbell [CA-48] 49% Obama

John Carter [TX-31] 58% McCain

John Culberson [TX-7] 58% McCain

Bob Goodlatte [VA-6] 57% McCain

Randy Neugebauer [TX-19] 72% McCain

It's not clear of the birther bill will hurt any of these guys, but it clearly gives a moderate opponent some ammo in portraying any one of them as a fringe-dwelling right winger.

Keep dreaming Politico. No one is going to run on the "my opponent is accusing Obama of being a Fraud" platform by 2010. The dems will be desperately trying to differentiate themselves from the 1/2 black, 1/2 baked Jimmuh Carter.

Leave it to Politico to add to the feeling it is offensive to require a POTUS candidate to prove they are a U.S. citizen.

So I guess next time I need to show any of my documentation I should just call the requester a loon or a nut-job? Give me a freakin’ break.

Love to see a huge protest demanding his birth certificate at the WH. Maybe get Larry Sinclair to give a speech too.

Except for the fact that there's not a democrat in the world that even wants to mention it.

That is not a ‘birther’ bill. It is common sense legislation that most people probably assume is already a requirement.

Hussein is already a drag. Everywhere I go politics is being discussed. Overwhelming opinion is VOTE THEM ALL OUT. That message is being echoed by Republican, Democrat, and Independent voters. The message hasn’t reached the clueless in Congress YET.

You have to wonder how they could even say it/write it with a straight face.

Good point. In fact it may be the Democrats that produce a real authentic birth certificate to save their own rat asses.

I’m getting really tired of this stuff. “Birther” has the ring of “truther,” and the implied association is no accident. As if requiring a President to abide by Constitutional law and show that he’s been born in the USA is equivalent to thinking that 9/11 was an inside job. Give me a break.

And so the attacks on the bill sponsors starts. This article is just a way to get their names out there for the Bots to go after them. Notice they listed all of them. Forgetting Obama for a sec, how is passing a bill to require native born status when there is no federal requirement or process a bad thing?

These people are scared and this bill must be passed, if only to prevent Obama from a second term. He'd resign before he'd let the cat out of the bag. Pass it then let the lawsuits keep trying to get the truth revealed.

Bill Posey's a great guy and I'm proud to have been an active participant on his campaign!
