IsraelNN.com) Foreign Minister Walid Muallem sarcastically agreed with President Shimon Peres’s statement Monday that Israel will not hand over the strategic Golan Heights to Damascus on a “silver platter.” He responded Tuesday morning that “silver” was not good enough and demanded, "We want to receive the Golan on a gold platter.”

His comments have sent the prospects of a rapprochement with Syria further back in the deep freeze as Syria increasingly hardens its stand in tandem with overtures from the Obama administration to make it part of the peace process.

The Golan Heights will be given back to Syria sooner or later. And you will see American troops securing the border. Israel will be persuaded, unfortunately.

The high ground is of utmost importance.
I suspect most Israelis know that giving Syria the Golan Heights (with or without the fig leaf of “peace keepers”) is simply giving their enemies a knife to put to their throats.
I cannot envision a scenario in which that would happen, absent a huge far Left uprising in Israel.
