Why Honduras matters to Chavez
BBC ^ | 07-07-09 | Will Grant

Posted on 07/07/2009 7:18:26 AM PDT by KJC1

---snip---

Trade relations are minimal and Honduras is far more reliant on remittances from the United States than it is on Mr Chavez's petro-dollars.

Nevertheless, President Chavez has already indicated that oil to Honduras will be suspended in a bid to force out the interim government led by Roberto Micheletti.

---snip---

Politically, however, the small Central American nation has become increasingly important to the Venezuelan leader.

"This is a coup against Venezuela!" President Chavez said in the hours after Mr Zelaya was forced on to a plane at gunpoint and flown to Costa Rica.

"It must not be permitted," he said, before adding that he would do whatever it takes to teach the coup leaders a lesson.

---snip---

The strange alliance of US President Barack Obama, the Organisation of American States (OAS) and President Chavez is tightening the screws on Roberto Micheletti via diplomatic and economic means.

The coup leaders are refusing to budge, and insist Mr Zelaya's return to the presidency is non-negotiable.

Pressure is growing on President Obama to withhold US aid to Honduras and force Mr Micheletti and his supporters from the presidential palace.

President Chavez, for one, is hoping that their days are numbered.

Honduras is a potential blockage to any land transport of drugs, money, people, etc.

What's strange about birds of a feather flocking together?

This is from the BBC viewpoint, but it describes the Marxist alliance formed against the new Honduran government. What it doesn't do is to describe the active role the Obama Administration has taken in trying to keep Zelaya in office and then trying to return him to office. Obama has switched sides for the US and supports dictators over democracy IMO.

It’s like Poland and the Baltic states in the Cold War; once they stood up to the Soviets, it was only a matter of time before everyone did. Should Chavismo be beaten in Honduras, then the deluge begins. Everyone will stand up to Chavez, including Venezuelans. It will be the beginning of the end of his hegemony.

Obama and his marxist pals only have about 6 months to force their marxist buddy back into power. The Honduran election takes place in November and it will be a lot harder to put Zelaya in place after the people have voted again.

Basically they would have to overturn the election in a sovereign nation to do so. It would also create a problem in the sense that it would be overturning the constitution and giving Zelaya another term without an election.

We now have two examples, first Chavez and second Zelaya, that a coup’s top priority should be to kill the dictator to prevent his comeback.

Obama has switched sides for the US and supports dictators over democracy IMO.

Obama has never "switched sides" because he is being true to his own allegiances: Saul Alinsky, William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, and Frank Marshall Davis, among others.

The public had plenty of information to indicate Obama was a Marxist, long before he took office. It slightly irritates me that there are people that seem to be 'surprised' that Obama acts like one.

For that matter, Hillary Clinton is also an Alinskyite, and you see which side she's on.

...and Chavez’s military...but first they need to manufacture a cover story, a pretext.

Let's keep that stored away for future reference, should we ever need to refer back to the lessons of history.

Perhaps I should have been more clear. I don't doubt that Obama is being true to his radical, Marxist roots. What he has done is switch the US policy and actions to support Marxists and dictators and oppose other democracies and democratic movement. In that sense, he has “switched sides” for the US and the US can no longer be relied upon by those countries and movements seeking freedom.

Big whoop. There are no refineries in Honduras, and they certainly don't need heating oil.

He’s isolating us from our allies and opening the door for our enemies.

What that means and why he’s doing it leads to lots of frightening possibilities.

Dangerous president. We have so many ultra Libs in the media that can’t stand for the US to be strong, that they applaud his actions.
