The Catholic bishops of Honduras have urged the people of that country "to overcome emotional reactions and to seek the truth" in the midst of a political crisis that began with the ouster of President Manuel Zelaya.
In their July 3 statement, which was delivered to a television audience by Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga of Tegucigalpa, the Honduran hierarchy steered clear of partisan politics, but insisted that the rule of law should be upheld. The bishops called attention to the fact that President Zelaya was removed from office on the basis of a valid court order. They noted that "the institutions of the Honduran democratic state are valid and that what is has executed in juridical-legal matters has been rooted in law."

Maradiaga is a good man and this is a great statement.
It emphasizes the fact that the rule of law is uppermost, not the person of el Presidente. Chavez is all bent out of shape because in his corrupt world, the word of the maximum leader is one and the same as the law. He answers to nobody. The law, the courts, the judiciary are all subservient to him.
Zelaya was attempting to go in the same direction as Chavez but came unstuck.

I hope that our esteemed Secretary of State reads this before her meeting with
Zelaya. Way to go Cardinal Maradiaga!

As a catholic, I’m surprised. I usually find myself disagreeing with church politics and cursing its missteps. Its been an interesting year for the church.

Do please keep on posting that image in every relevant thread. It is perhaps the finest morphing image I have ever seen.

Rodriquez to Zelaya
‘’On the day of your inauguration you cited three commandments of the rules of God — not to lie, not to steal, not to kill,’’ Rodríguez said. ``If you respect life, if you love life. . .please meditate because if not it could be too late.’’
Can we get this added to our oath of office?

In Honduras, as well in all of Latin America, the clergy play a huge role in political life.

The article states:
...but insisted that the rule of law should be upheld. The bishops called attention to the fact that President Zelaya was removed from office on the basis of a valid court order. They noted that "the institutions of the Honduran democratic state are valid and that what is has executed in juridical-legal matters has been rooted in law." Unfortunantly to the world media, the generally socialist Obama adiministration and the socialist OAS, UN and EU the "will of the people" (a shifty nebulous thing generally defined by someone wearing a Che shirt and demanding central control) always is held up instead of that old fashioned thing, "the rule of Law".
