They knew that, when she ran for VP, and didn't seem to be offended then. She can do far more good for Alaska (and, incidentally, the rest of the country) if she gains substantial national power.

Actually, early indications are that most Alaskans understand the situation and respect her decision. They are sorry to see her go, but they are happy to be getting a governor who will be able to actually tend to their business without the constant debilitating distractions.
Even more, they are absolutely "thrilled" that the horde of disgusting, dirt-digging, agit-prop spreading leftist scum who invaded their state last year solely to attack her can now leave...
If the people of Alaska believe that the governorship of their state should be more important to Sarah Palin then the entire US and her family, which I doubt, they have a very inflated self image.
