TEGUCIGALPA (Reuters) - Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya prepared to fly back home on Sunday, setting the stage for a possible confrontation as the interim government that has defied international pressure said it would not let him enter the country.

Honduras' interim government, slapped with suspension from the Organization of American States over its refusal to reinstate Zelaya, said it would refuse Zelaya permission to land...

Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa, a leftist ally of Zelaya's, said U.N. General Assembly President Miguel D'Escoto would accompany the ousted president on his planned return to Honduras.

"There is a great mobilization of people in Tegucigalpa and we don't know if the interim government or the top brass of the military will dare repress those people. So we decided that the most prudent thing to do was that the president of the U.N. General Assembly Miguel D'Escoto accompanies President Zelaya back to Tegucigalpa," Correa told a news conference in Washington.

OAS Secretary-General Jose Miguel Insulza, Argentine President Cristina Fernandez and Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo and Correa will travel to El Salvador to monitor Zelaya's return, Correa said.

Zelaya's plan to try to go home followed the strongest move yet by foreign governments to isolate the caretaker government since last Sunday's coup -- which was the first in Central America since the Cold War era and was triggered by a dispute over presidential term limits. p> The OAS met into the early hours of Sunday in Washington and took the rare step to suspend Honduras after the interim authorities ignored an ultimatum by the 34-member body to reinstate Zelaya...

Al-Jezzera (the only news network that is covering it live right now) just reported that he has left Washington DC for Honduras in a private jet registered to the Venezuelan government. Meanwhile, there are 400 pro-Zelaya zealots at the airport in Tecucigalpa awaiting him, and 300 soldiers and policemen. I am waiting for the Bolivian news and for Univision and Telemundo. I have a feeling it's going to get ugly.

Has there ever been another situation where the UN president personally/bodily interceded?

And why isn’t anybody covering this? It is fascinating and compelling. I’m going to try TV Azteca.

It's a good question and I do not know the answer since my default policy is to ignore that looney bin in NYC.

Arff. France 2 just reported it, from the Chavez-commie point of view, of course. During the last French election I could just barely bring myself to watch.

So will the OAS, the UN and our own Hussein install this thug as Honduras’ new president-for-life? We’ll find out. But even keeping a LOW PROFILE, Obama would be truly exposed as what he is, wouldn’t he!

They would have to invade Honduras. I don’t think they want to reveal themselves to that extent. They will continue to maneuver and prattle, but as long a the Hondurans hold the line, there isn’t much they can do other than cut off aid and credit. I am listening to Michelleti’s press conference right now, and he is trying to calm things down. Nicaraguan troops (with some Venezuelans, I am sure) are moving toward the Honduran border. That should be interesting.
