You’re right in that she’ll be a public figure, but she won’t be a politician, which is what they’ve been hiding behind in their “free speech” attacks. She’s offically a private citizen as opposed to an elected official. Also, as a private citizen she won’t be bound by the financial disclosure laws she was as governor.

I’ve been very judicious in my donations to political campaigns in the past. When McCain announced her as his running mate, I immediately donated. And then again after her speech at the RNC convention. AND, I will donate to her legal fund and if she chooses to run for ANY office to her campaign.

Same here. I wasn’t going to given McCain any money, my vote yes, but no money. Once he picked Sarah then I gave money. I will continue to support Sarah whatever she does.

Actually, I think she first needs to aggressively go after the State Run Media organizations who are reporting on these “bloggers” and using them as sources

ALL of us need to go after the media. Bombard the corporation board, sponsors, and the FCC with thousands of complaints, then issue press releases and get your local news affiliates to cover the story.

The legal attacks were part of it. While the Palin’s may have racked up $500K in legal bills, the state’s liability is up to $3M so far. And that’s not counting all the staff time, and Sarah’s time, that has been taken away from doing their actual jobs.

Given the rate that these suits are coming in, the Palin’s would be broke at the end of the next term, and the state would be on the hook for probably 10’s of millions.

It would have been irresponsible for the Gov to allow the state to continue to incurr those exenses on her behalf because of partsan politics

The ethics bill was put in place without regard to how it could be used against someone with Sarah’s national political popularity.

I mean, Who Knew!?

For most any other gov it would work as intended. Now they know, and if they were smart, they’d tweek it just enough to guard against frivolous lawsuits of this type.
