Our Nation is at risk. Our once unchallenged preeminence in commerce, industry, science, and technological innovation is being overtaken by competitors throughout the world. This report is concerned with only one of the many causes and dimensions of the problem, but it is the one that undergirds American prosperity, security, and civility. We report to the American people that while we can take justifiable pride in what our schools and colleges have historically accomplished and contributed to the United States and the well-being of its people, the educational foundations of our society are presently being eroded by a rising tide of mediocrity that threatens our very future as a Nation and a people. What was unimaginable a generation ago has begun to occur--others are matching and surpassing our educational attainments.

This cannot be overstated. This is an emergency.
Always propoganda and scam.
When the percentage of underachievers gets too great, they lower the bar for everybody in the pool, thus excacerbating the problem.
“they lower the bar for everybody in the pool, thus exacerbating the problem.”
That goes for students, teachers, and administrators.
We are not going to win this argument by going to the politicians. Maybe go bright at the issue and see what Human Pride will do....call the morons what they are and see if we can get them to realize they are stupid. Expose “the Matrix” of ignorance they are in and see if it makes them react.
They also pour more money into the unmotivated underachievers and make it politically incorrect to put much into nurturing the gifted students who are the real hope for innovation and progress. Because that would be elitist and that's even worse than the stated problem!
I think the stimulus bill put a billion dollars into the Detroit schools. I can think of a lot fairer ways to divide up that dough.
“This is an emergency.”
The U.S. still is a world leader in medical innovation, but that surely won’t last long under Obamacare. Since 1970, thanks to new pharmaceuticals and other medical advances, Americans have gained 1 year of life expectancy every 5 years.
Rather than put out the brushfire ignited by the abysmal performance of our PUBLIC schools, Obama’s opposition to school vouchers and his reckless pursuit of government-provided health care essentially is turning it into a forest fire that predictably will pose the greatest risk to the least advantaged members of society. What also is predictable is that Obama will blame the resultant mess on either GWB or Republicans in Congress who seek to slow down this freight train.
