Ottawa Hills Police Officer Thomas Caine White was indicted today on charges of felonious assault. A grand jury indicted White on the charges for a police-involved shooting in Ottawa Hills on May 23rd. Motorcycist Michael McCloskey was shot after a pursuit by police. A statement issued today by Ottawa Hills police says that "the village of Ottawa Hills sincerely regrets the results of this unfortunate incident."
Ottawa Hills? Ottawa Hills? Where is it?
I’m not sure that the old Spanish Ley de Fugas was a completely bad rule. If you run from the police, society is safer in general if everyone understands that the police will use whatever force is necessary immediately to stop you from fleeing. Certainly there was a beneficial rationale behind it.
That aside, in this particualar case I would give the officer the benefit of the doubt until all the facts are known, including the officer’s side of it. After a highway chase, a furtive motion or a failure to follow spoken commands in many cases means an officer is a split second away from death.
If you tell me the injured suspect was the officer’s Sunday school teacher on the way to the hospital to visit his dying mother, and that the officer knew it, that’s another story. And something like that could be true. Nothing in the posted article gives enough information to make a judgment on, one way or the other.

That’s true about the vast majority of news items these days. This is *not* A Good Thing.
Guy who says “Badge lickers in 3-2-1” in 3-2-1
Wow, you make a judgment and then say there is not enough info to make a judgment. How hypocritical of you! You more or less exonerate the cop saying the only reason this perp shouldn't have been shot was if the perp was the cops grandmother on the way to church or something similar and you say you give the cop the benefit of the doubt, but of course you didn't make a judgment! You sound like a typical leftard talking head.
I don't think there is enough info to go on either but unlike you I won't exonerate the cop or the perp until, or if, I hear the rest of the story.
Shooting someone in the back is always a grey issue.
Here’s what the first posted comment said:
“I fear the police in this country a lot more than any criminals.”
My post was a reaction to that.
