Our current system, no, but a free banking system on a gold standard, yes. So I argue in this 51-minute talk, taped at Rhodes College in March. Not just a talking head video, this one features some actual walking around! Thanks to co-blogger Art Carden for organizing the event and posting the video.
I believe in Free-banking, but that’s nearly an impossible dream. The culture of America would have to change and the need for government would have to shrink incredibly.
No. The monetary system abrogated self-regulation in the first place to spin off into never-never land with no recourse for return to functionality when fractional banking rules of about 10 go 1 were abandoned with the advent of credit derivatives which have expanded exponentially past the point of no return.
Our culture will change as a result of this in uncontrollable ways.
I must be getting tired. I thought it said monastery system, and I was curious why anyone would care what monks do.....
it be hard to implement as not all republican support this idea. Despite republican talk of free market, they don’t believe in FULL blown free market, there a certain things republican want government control over
I’m saying the idea of free-banking is almost impossible.
If anything, we can supress the idea that government needs to get bigger and remove the barriers currently harming the overall market e.g the medical insurance barriers created by the states. That does require some level of regulation at federal level, but it’s more or less about the federal government implying that the states are to provide a free trading system that honors the contracts it creates. I think that’s a simple and necessary step for this country.
To some level I fear the Obama plans will pass, and his liberal breathens will win....for the time being.
> Can the Monetary System Regulate Itself?
Not if Obama continues to mettle in things he has no Constitutional authority to do.
