If there is anything that shows that California is a failed state. it is the DMV.

why close three Fridays and not say three Tuesdays? I have a hard time believing Friday is the slowest weekday.

Of course, lowering taxes dramatically to increase taxable income is a concept beyond the intellect of most liberals. ;-)

Friday is nice and convenient. 3 day weekend and all. No doubt they will be accessing Federal unemployment funds. I can almost guarantee it’ll end up being paid but by different people. It’s that far gone you know.

BTW you Californians.....how much is the state ripping you off in vehicle registration fees? I hear it’s an outrageous amount. Someone explain it please!

I have a hard time believing Friday is the slowest weekday.

I was at a California DMV today, renewing my license. I don't know if it was because a lot of people have today off work, but the place was a ZOO. There was no parking...I had to park about three blocks away. And the place was packed. I thought I'd died and gone to hell. If the DMV is going to be open even fewer days now, I can only imagine what it will be like.

I haven’t been inside a DMV office in years. You can do most everything on-line these days. They should close for three days every week.

In rural, central California, the DMV would only need to be open three days per week if English was the only language allowed at these rural offices. Add the visible presence of ICE at the counter and rural offices could easily serve the non routine needs of the legal driving public in two, eight hour day per week.

Just shut down for a week a month, every office in the state. It will save a lot of money and give people needed time to reflect and relax.

The reason many work for the government is not because of their unique qualifications but because their skill level and desire to learn remains at the level of flipping burgers.

Most of the jobs could run an efficiency program with no more than a bell or buzzer that indicates they should do the next action. They could even have different tones to make it clear what the next action should be.

The other reasons they work for the government as opposed to private sector are:

No layoffs and can't be fired -
That's right they know with some certainty that unlike the private sector, the government just doesn't do anything for efficiency and cost cutting. They don't layoff, have shift levels appropriate for traffic, and they can count on never being fired.

Very affordable Health Care and Bene’s-
For the most part the government employee, a producer of very little, can rely on a superior health plan that delivers a bigger buffet of covered services than private companies provide. This all provided at tax payer expense with low out of pocket expense to the government employee.

Additionally, they receive favorable buying options for everything from food to gas and can even drive government vehicles, subsidized by the taxpayer.

Finally, they look forward to putting in their 20-30 years and retiring with nearly full salary and a continuation of health benefits.

All this and they produced what? They improved what? They took initiative to anything other than interview for a job?

To be sure there are many in government who actually provide valuable service to their communities but when I go to the DMV, like I did yesterday, I am not talking with people who think. I definitely do not talk with people who are interested in anything more than putting in their 8 hours and would definitely never put in more to improve their lot in life or improve service delivery.

Hint from your Uncle Vendome. I too can't stand the DMV but you can go to any DMV you want. For instance the DMV in Sunnyvale is always packed but run a fairly tight system that ensures the best queuing of customers.

That said, it is still packed with people who cannot speak English very well and that include employees. So the processes break down and everything moves at a crawl.

Go to DMV in the suburb. I go to DMV in Gilroy and only on Tuesday or Thursday. My preference is during a holiday week as most people are more interested celebrating holidays than getting anything done. I combine my trip with going to the outlets for things I need anyway, Castroville for Artichokes or to Carmel, just cuz.

Wait time? 15-20 minutes and in my mind that is acceptable.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t renew online because it was time to have my picture taken, be fingerprinted, and take the eye test. It’s been years since I’ve been to a DMV. Had no idea they’d gotten that bad.

Avoid the DMV, join the AAA. They can handle most of what you need from the DMV. I recently had to transfer a title and get new plates. It took the AAA about 45 minutes to take care of me. I’d have spent twice that simply waiting in line at the DMV, assuming they were open.

Who needs the DMV in CA? You just get in any car and drive. No license, no insurance, no inspection, no title, no registration, no tags, no...citizenship, no problem.

Yeh..all the hassle of registering with DMV....but comes time for illegals to vote then cries of racism if a picture ID is required at the voting booth!
