Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin plans to remain extremely visible and will give serious consideration to running for president in 2012, but has made no decision, a close friend said after her startling announcement Friday that she will resign her office.
Friends say Palin plans to spend time writing her book, which is due this fall, then promote it heavily when it comes out in spring 2010.
Palin is by far the Republican Party's biggest draw for fund-raisers and conservative events, and the friends say she plans to spend a lot of time traveling in "the lower 48" states, as Alaskans call the continental U.S.
Those friends say she plans to give a series of paid speeches, and will also make free GOP appearances, raising money for the party and for issues. She also plans to help other candidates, collecting political IOUs for herself.

Dude - Nice.
hmmm, I heard him say that and I like your theory!
That is not the reason she quit. I don't know that is, but I would be surprised if she is even in the news by this time next year.
What a splendid coincidence.
Let Mitch take Lugar’s seat when the time comes. He can be like Lamar!!! in that respect, and like Dick he can put Reagan behind him. I really wish Hucklebuck would do the same in Arkansas.
Tell me, beckett, what qualifies you to make this statement?
Thomas Sowell believes her to be qualified, I know his qualifications for stating that. So do John O'Sullivan, Rush Limbaugh, R. Emmett Tyrrell, Mark Steyn, Fred Malek, Laura Ingraham, Tammy Bruce, to name a few, and I also am aware of their qualifications.
What we need to learn, beckett, are your qualifications.
The floor is yours.
I agree with you there. Nobody has the ability to rally the base and raise money in the Republican party like she can. If I were her, I’d focus on helping Republicans do well across the country (as Reagan did in 1978). She can also polish her speaking style and brush up on issues.
I'll take that bet.
Big Media will go after any candidate that runs against Obama.
Bobby Jindal, Mitch Daniels and Rick Perry come to mind.
To you maybe, but most of America goes “Who?”

+1
Just lovin’ your other hat!!
ppsst. saquin is on the FR troll list. Ignore him.
“Not only is she going to remain visible - she will become the obvious opposition to Obama.”
FINALLY! A Conservative with cahoonas who will speak up! I’m tired of all these sissy boy RINOs worrying about the ‘big tent’. Did Reagan worry about the ‘big tent’ when all those moderate dems and independents voted for him?
Wouldn’t mind being wrong, to be honest.
But this is a horrible move. It suggest that she is either weak or has something to hide.
Someone's got a hangup, I see. It's not becoming.
Oooh!, I'm so excited I'm on your "troll list", Mr. Been-here-for-6-months.
Forgive me if I'm not crushed by your disdain.
She will get our $$$$$$ TOO!
It seems very unlikely that Sarah is planning to run for President in 2012.
It is too early to think about 2012 and it seems unlikely that she is doing that.
She is quitting the job because she is just tired of it and fed up attacks on her family, her political career is over and that about sums about it.
She could hit the Cable Tv circuit and stay as a commentator but not as a politician.
Organized politics better look out! “Only dead fish go with the flow!”
Jeff,
You said this well!!!! DITTOS!!!!!!
