POLITICO: Palin plans to stay visible
Politico ^ | 7/3/2009 | Mike Allen

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin plans to remain extremely visible and will give serious consideration to running for president in 2012, but has made no decision, a close friend said after her startling announcement Friday that she will resign her office.

Friends say Palin plans to spend time writing her book, which is due this fall, then promote it heavily when it comes out in spring 2010.

Palin is by far the Republican Party's biggest draw for fund-raisers and conservative events, and the friends say she plans to spend a lot of time traveling in "the lower 48" states, as Alaskans call the continental U.S.

Those friends say she plans to give a series of paid speeches, and will also make free GOP appearances, raising money for the party and for issues. She also plans to help other candidates, collecting political IOUs for herself.

Screw you, Beckett. And that goes for all the ‘other’ Dummies (and other leftist cesspool trolls).

And I mean that sincerely.

She is quitting the job because she is just tired of it and fed up attacks on her family, her political career is over and that about sums about it.

I was watching Sarah's full remarks on FOX and in my opinion she believes her political career is just starting.

But this is a horrible move. It suggest that she is either weak or has something to hide.

You're not alone. That was my first instinct, too. Then I thought it through and came to the exact opposite conclusion.

I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised by how this plays out.

Again, I wouldn't mind being wrong.

But quiting on your first term of governor isn't the way to go into the big show.

I don't wear blinders, and ask yourself how you would react if this was anyone other than Palin.

There is more to this, but I fear it isn't the pie in the sky hopes of many here.

You should add Rubio to that list.

Rush is off golfing next week.

I think Reagan did atleast 2 terms of governor in California before concentrating full time to run for President.

Palin has served just a bit more than half her first term, so I dont know what political career she has in mind but definetly it doesn’ look like a Presidential run.

She could hit the Cable Tv circuit and stay as a commentator but not as a politician.

No offense, but you are so off-base. Palin won't join the talking heads. She's going to walk right over the top of them.

I had the same thought. It’s a perfectly natural alignment.

I think you are mixing two different ideas. If you think Sarah quiting her first term will hurt her politicaly, fine.

If you think Sarah is quitting because she is tired of politics or there is some hidden scandal and her political career is over, then you haven't heard her full comments that she made today.

I believe she is keen on running in 2012 and I believe she thinks that today's decision will free her up to pursue that goal.

I wasn't a big Palin supporter before today. I liked her, but I generally agreed with the advice she was getting from the Krauthammer's and Goldberg's of the world. I was actually losing faith in her before today.

I had no blinders on... my first reaction was very negative. I just thought it through and reached another conclusion... one that made me see her in an entirely new light. I think this was a brilliant, very calculated, game-changing gambit.

I think she’s about to open a can of whoop ass on Zero.
Can she not say that she stayed in office longer than he did before running?

Eight months ago, with eight months less of Alaska governing experience, and teaming with a real dud, she ran for VP and came within six or seven points of winning that office.

Perhaps you think that serving as a lame duck Alaska governor for another 18 months will make Sarah more qualified to run for President. Watching her speak today, I don't think she thinks that way.

Hey you’re on it. I saw the list, what can I say. I can say this, some of the best trolls on internet forums are ones that sign up, let it simmer and try to fly under the radar. Longevity means nothing. One of my friends has been posting on DU for a long time. He flies under the radar, gets called out once in a while, then plays nice again. I didn’t make the list, I just saw it. Sorry, your name is there and I don’t know why.

Oooh, there’s a “list”. Didn’t know there was such a “list”, wouldn’t know where to find it and frankly couldn’t give a damn. I don’t deal in “lists”. Seems like an easy cop-out for people who can’t engage in serious discussion. (”Bah! I disagree with you! Instead of proving my point, I’ll put you on my “list”. So there! Then I’ll take my ball and go home!”) I say what I believe and stand behind every single thing I’ve said here for the past nearly 12 years. If it makes you feel better to yell “troll” than to engage in an argument (maybe because you can’t?) then that’s your prerogative.

Not my problem, dude.

Ronald Reagan was “unqualified”, too

Reagan was an honestly serious and thoughtful man all his life, even when he was a "B actor." Palin is a lightweight clearly uncomfortable dealing with serious issues. Sean Hannity's interview of her from several weeks ago was just re-aired on his show. I literally watched her cobble together trivial thoughts in her mind in an attempt to sound like she knows what she's talking about. It's just sad that anyone would compare this woman to Reagan.

Her rise is a complete fluke stemming from McCain's devilish desire to shake up staid presidential politics, sort of like a schoolboy prank that backfired.

We just had a lightweight Republican president who just about destroyed the party and the economy, and then handed the country to the Democrats. The last thing we need is another lightweight, superficial thinker leading the ticket in 2012.
