In Political Ads, Christian Left Mounts Sermonic Campaigns

Randy Brinson, a conservative political consultant in Alabama, has been fielding anxious calls for weeks from business interests across the South.

Their concern is massive ad blitz on Christian and country-music stations across 10 states. The ads, funded by a left-leaning coalition, urge support for congressional legislation to curb greenhouse-gas emissions -- by framing the issue as an urgent matter of Biblical morality.

"As our seas rise, crops wither and rivers run dry, God's creation cries out for relief," begins one ad, narrated by an evangelical megachurch pastor. Another opens with a reference to the Gospel of John, slams energy interests for fighting the bill, and concludes: "Please join the faithful in speaking out against the powerful."

Transcript of one of their radio ads:

“The Gospel of John teaches that evildoers operate in dark places, hiding their deeds. But those who do what is right, do so in the light.

As Congress begins work on climate legislation to protect God’s creation, a great assembley of church leaders are backing a bill that supports working families and the poor and provides rebates directly to consumers to offset rising energy costs.

But Southern Company, the energy conglomerate that owns Alabama and Georgia Power, has unleashed an army of lobbyists to fight the faith community and threaten law makers working to provide resources to American families.

Why? Because Southern Company wants all the money instead.

Please join the faithful in speaking out against the powerful. Call 877-88-CLIMATE to tell your Congressman to support the Waxman-Markey Climate bill that helps everyone, not just the energy companies. Paid for by AmericanValuesNetwork.org.”

These people use verses of the holy scripture to assist their lies and evil doing. I do not in any way presume to know God's will or to pass judgment on others but it would seem a safe bet that they will burn in hell for all eternity.

The Left must be very afraid, the wheels are coming off the “Global Warming” song and dance, they are reduced to using that “god thingy stuff”.

DNC has issued the order “all hands on deck, comence trud polishing at once.”

I have to get my hands on the scripture they are referencing. Man’s causing natural disaster has been due to sin, not driving an SUV.

Remember Satan tempting Jesus with the use of scripture out of context? Good thing Jesus knew the truth. As for them burning in hell for eternity, now that is global warming.

Ok, I went to websight. This is a very organized and probably well financed group. I could not find who the major backers are, perhaps mainline protestant groups? Maybe members of National Council of Churches? Sojourners with Wallis?
Who knows. As ignorant as the political masses are the relgious masses are even more so. And with the like of Rick Warren jumping on the global warming network it will make it difficult to stop this stuff because they make it sound logical. Who will do the research to find the truth?
freegards,

Whenever the scriptures talks of the end times there are references to natural disasters but what people do not realize is that it is not global warming it’s because of sin and the evil that causes the earth to spit itself out. At least that is what I believe, there are warnings in scripture but still man continues to flaunt their sins. Anyone who thinks we mere humans can control the weather, climate is nothing but arrogance and pride. Let them stop a tornado, hurricane, these are the very things God uses to let people know who is the creator. The very earth itself uses more carbon footprints than man could ever do.

“Christian left” is an oxymoron. Leftism does not divide its loyalties. If it belongs to a non-political organization, it does so to subvert that organization to the causes of leftism. And leftists regularly seek out non-political organizations to join, solely for this purpose.

The purposes of Christianity, as religion, are unimportant to leftists who join Christian churches. Instead, their goal is to use those infiltrated churches to advance leftist causes, and at the *expense* of the beliefs and purposes of those churches.

For a “Christian leftist”, God and Jesus are unimportant. What is important, is that the theology taught in those churches be reinterpreted to support leftist doctrines. So, if you ask a “Christian leftist” what the most important issues and purposes of Christianity entail, they will answer with one or more of the following:

Global warming, promoting abortion, supporting Obama, opposing Conservatism, homosexual marriage, etc., etc. At NO point will they even mention salvation, prayer, redemption, and other religious values, except as “pro forma” acknowledgment, solely with the intent of maintaining the pretense of that they are Christians.

This is far easier to do in Protestant churches, which have more collective hierarchies that are easier to infiltrate, than in Orthodox churches, which have narrower chains of priesthood.

Importantly, leftists always strongly oppose schism, such as among the Episcopalians, because that denies them access to the resources of those members who are truly Christian and obey its doctrines. If a schism is successful, the leftist branch will soon wither, because it can no longer parasite from the non-leftists for leftist causes.

And this is the weakness of leftism. If forced to support itself, it collapses, because its ideas are fundamentally, and irredeemably flawed. Unless it can tap into resources of non-leftist organizations.

A great example of this was Swedish socialism. While it is still held up as an example of how socialism “works”, the truth of the matter was that was only able to do so, because fully half of the Swedish economy, the arms export industry, was exempt from socialism. And though highly taxed, this allowed them to still be profitable.

But, as is always the case, even though socialist systems provided less and less function over time, while costing more and more money to do less and less, there was not enough money even through bleeding the national arms industry dry. So in a final act of greed, their socialist prime minister decided to kill the golden goose, by nationalizing the arms industry.

Had he not been assassinated by a madman, and Sweden stayed on its socialist path, by now it would have been reduced to a third world country. Fortunately for them, the Swedes wised up, and discarded much of their socialism.

Redemption of those churches afflicted with leftists face the same problem. Either they purge the leftists from their ranks, and continue to embrace their core purposes and beliefs, or they will wither and die, and their leftist members will go forth like spores, to infect other churches.

In the final analysis, leftism is the enemy of Christianity, both overtly and surreptitiously, and a leftist will never pray to God or Jesus and mean it, because their faith in their leftist religion is what matters to them.

It seems to me that this stems from the left total misunderstanding of the true nature of man.

http://americanvaluesnetwork.org/policy/#engage

After reading this:
“As we hear regularly during their speeches on abortion and gay marriage, faith and moral leadership do not allow for compromise. That may very well be, but in a like manner, throwing a few scraps to the poor and middle class cannot compensate for cuts to public services and mortgaging our country’s future by running up huge deficits to pay for wars and massive tax cuts to the wealthiest among us. Any attempt to do so would be utterly inconsistent with the clear message of the Bible.

It is very hard for us as mere humans to rule as God would have us do, but if the religious right wants to try, we should challenge them to apply those principles not only to bedroom issues but also to the kitchen table issues where Jesus and the prophets dedicated most of their attention.”

I think we are in need of an indepth study of their positions. Anyone blind enough to accept murder of innocent preborn (the abomination that causes desolation) and other abominations, homosexuality and adultery, are in great need of correction.

Maybe I’ll post it here after I finish. May take a couple of weeks since I always check every reference and usually read the chapters before and after. It’ll be fun though.

I do want to say one thing, God hates sacrifices that are given by people covered in sin. It doesn’t matter how many poor you feed and clothe, if you are disobedient, no good works will make up for that. Hosea 6:6

Huh? The clear message of the Bible is to force people to engage in socialist wealth redistribution programs at the point of a gun?

I thought the message of the Bible was to repent of your evil ways, accept Christ's sacrifice for you, and follow Him. But maybe I'm missing something since I'm not a "progressive".

Maybe if I just had an abortion, it would all become clear.

lies and evil doing

I looked at their website. I did not see that they came out for the wrong side on homosexual marriage, abortion or other moral issues. I think they are totally wrong on this environmental issue which is intertwined in bad science and bad economics, but that makes them politically misguided, not evil.
