Hundreds of operations cancelled at Lothian hospitals (UK Socialized Medicine)
The Scotsman (UK) ^ | 19 February 2009 | Adam Morris

EIGHT operations in the Lothians are cancelled every week because of equipment failures, bed shortages and staffing levels, it has emerged.

In the last year, 420 elective procedures were cancelled, a significant rise on previous years.

The ERI suffered the most cancellations, with hundreds also being postponed at the Sick Kids, the Western General and St John's Hospital in Livingston. Critics said not enough bed space was provided in hospitals for times of need, although NHS chiefs pointed out that the cancellations equated to little over 0.5 per cent of all operations in the area – 65,000 operations in total were carried out last year.

Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act detailed the cancellations across the five Lothians hospitals where elective operations take place.

They come a day after the Evening News revealed plans by NHS Lothian to site a temporary mobile operating theatre in one of the car parks at Little France to drive down waiting lists.

Eight beds and one operating theatre would be provided for the ERI in a bid to ease waiting times for treatment.

One source at the ERI said: "It's all to do with a lack of beds. There was a Monday not so long ago when 19 operations were cancelled because there were no beds whatsoever. Consultants come up and ask me what's going on because they can't believe it.

"It's not an old problem. There were 1500 beds at the old ERI and 800 at this one – it is obvious what would happen."

The Love Of Money Is The ROOT Of ALL Evil. A Medical System Cannot Serve Two Masters . . . The Patient and The Government. Either it will defer to the Patient and order necessary tests OR It will defer to the Government and deny needed medical attention.

And DOCTORS (at first) don’t like being told what to do. BUT if paid enough or threatened enough, some may accept the Government’s position. Others may give up medicine. And the fewer doctors, the less available the ‘universal’ health care.

The less health care available, the higher the death rate.

So, Liberal Socialist Marxists win all the way around.

Patriots . . . what will we do?

GOD Help Us!

One of Obama’s constant comments in support of Obamacare is that they can save money by becoming more efficient, less waste, blah, blah, blah. Ahh, Mr. Obama, can you tell us where the TARP money, or the stimulus money went. I mean, isn’t some government agency auditing this? They can’t even account for hundreds of millions of dollars spent in the past 6 months, Geithner can’t figure out how to use TurboTax, and the only newsworthy item I know of regarding fiscal responsibility in the Obama Administration is the firing of the guy who figured out there was misuse of Americore funds, proving to me that this has nothing to do with efficiency, or anything else for that matter, it has to do with payoffs for getting elected.

And has anyone investigated Mrs. Obama’s $300K/year job at the University of Chicago Hospitals? Get her opinion on healthcare? I’d think if she were a senior VP of a healthcare organization, she’d have an opinion. Except I expect if anyone investigated, they’d find out that she didn’t have much of a job and in her years employed there, didn’t learn a thing about healthcare.
