Congress Retirement Plan
email | 7/2/09 | Vanity

Posted on 07/02/2009 12:04:44 PM PDT by Aria

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years. Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it. You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan. For all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die. Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments..

For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275, 000.00 during the last years of their lives. This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries. Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives. Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA.! ZILCH....This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;

"OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK "!

From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer). We can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month after retirement. Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits! Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made. That change would be to Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen.. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us. Then sit back.....And see how fast they would fix it.

Email I got today. Only problem is if we discontinue such a lucrative retirement for our esteemed public servants then maybe we wouldn't attract such quality talent to public service. /s

Don’t they get over 100,000 a year + other perks after just one or 2 reelections?

From the federal level, to the state, county and city level, from the congress to the local city councils, the government's lucrative wages, lottery style retirement pensions, medical benefits etc, are choking the American people off...

It's about time these millions of government employee parasites find out who they are actually working for.

I've got a retirement plan for them.

It involves a life sentence of hard labor for the lucky ones.

No. Amount of pension depends on age, number of years in office, options they chose when they entered into the pension program. Very few of them get six figure pensions, and none of them after only 2 terms.

I don’t know the details but it would be worth it to find out.

We elected people to represent us and instead they think they have ascended to royalty. Today there is an article abut all their travel at our expense. I’m disgusted with all of them.

Senator Byrd getting 7 million after he retires over the rest of his life...a big doubt!!! That was such a horrible example to use when trying to use this to show how ridiculous the congress retirement is. Senator Byrd is already in his 90’s and his next election he will be shy of 100 or even over. So is this article saying that when Byrd retires at 99 (let’s say), he will likely earn 7 million in retirement monthly benefits over the rest of his life???? I calll the BS flag big time!!!!

Yeah well even the pension plan they do have is a whole lot better than what the run-of-the-mill working stiff gets, if he gets one at all. They should still be ashamed.

I am having a problem with one word in your post.....”quality”. I don’t see the quality in those people that would justify that type of retirement. They should never be allowed to vote for their own raises or retirement programs. I don’t know of any company that allows that.

We better do it fast. The government is so busy growing that we will all be drawing our compensation from this beast. And it won’t be the same as our leaders( barf)!!

Sorry everyone....I shoulda checked Snopes. Egg on face.

However, I did see an article today about the travel our public servants enjoy at our expense. And, needless to say, most of them find being in power is very lucrative.

What I have found most amazing is people still believe that employers MATCH funds...They do not. Nor do they pay a single tax. Not one. All is paid by the consumer/employer. After all. Wer eit not so that the employer was forced to match this “contribution” by law then you would be making more of your own money.

This SCAM was put in place by politicians who know the power over you made to order when they control your money.

We seriously need a revolution of law to end this and many other practices that are legislated AGAINST us by scum who claim to be “serving.”
