The New York Times this morning has a long lead editorial on reforming what is laughingly referred to as the New York State Legislature. As the state has relentlessly declined over the last few decades both economically and politically, the Legislature has become something straight out of Gilbert and Sullivan, populated by pompous time-servers and buffoons who do as theyre told by party leaders:

And New Yorkers keep electing them. Californians do the same thing.
According to the folks in Albany, I’m an Upper West Side liberal — even those I live so far out in Brooklyn that I’m on the border of a Staten Island district (which extends to Brooklyn, but not via the bridge nor is there any ferry service or anything, so I’m wondering just how this is continuous or contiguous or whatever).
