Saudi royal denounces his brother

A member of the Saudi royal family has called for the assets of his brother to be frozen. Prince Khaled bin Talal denounced his brother's media empire in an unprecedented public attack from within the ruling family.

Prince Khaled accused Prince Walid bin Talal of disseminating vice and violating the rules of Islamic Sharia in the conservative kingdom. Prince Walid is one of the richest businessmen in the world.

It has long been known that there is a split within the ranks of Saud family between liberals and conservatives. Prince Khaled said he had been forced to speak out after quiet efforts to advise his brother to mend his ways had fallen on deaf ears.

Prince Walid, known for his liberal lifestyle, owns a media empire which features entertainment channels that have long angered conservative Saudis.

Prince Khaled, told an Arabic website that his brother's plan to introduce cinema into Saudi society was the straw that broke the camel's back.

This was a reference to a Saudi film financed by Prince Walid, and shown in Saudi Arabia late last year despite fierce opposition from Islamist activists.

Nearly all forms of modern entertainment - particularly those that bring men and women together - are regarded by conservative Saudis as morally corrosive and can, in their eyes, undermine the religious foundation of the Saudi society and state.

Movies! Entertainment channels! What's next?

How about Fox News? Hannitize them.

The conflict of Westernization is all over Saudi Arabia. TV was initially banned because it was considered to be idolatry, until the king was advised that Friday prayers in Mecca could be broadcast all over Islam....naming the king as blessed by Allah.

King Faisal was killed in March 1975 by a nephew because he allowed the first TV Station to start up. The two factions mod’s vs conseratives, have been at it for quite awhile. Only rarely does the conflict surface to world view.

I thought I reconized the name...

Saudi prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who is an investment tycoon and chairman of the Kingdom Holding Company, said in an interview with Charlie Rose that he had about a 6-7% stake in News Corp.

Fox News Channel (FNC) is an American cable news and satellite channel owned by the Fox Entertainment Group, a subsidiary of News Corporation.

Royal disputes have their own ground rules. Rule #1 is not to go public with a dispute. Doing so is usually worse than whatever disagreement that exists.

Prince Khaled is obviously a hot head, and willing to break Rule #2 as well, which is “Don’t get in the way of business”. This is almost a universal rule, and even applies in Mafia families.

Prince Walid would likely not be doing what he is doing without the permission of the big boss, unless the big boss is trying to undermine Walid, because he is getting too powerful.

The odds favor that Khaled is out of order. Hopefully the king will squash him like an insect.

“Hopefully the king will squash him like an insect.”

I know that area is the oil capital of the universe and as such open warfare is not a good idea....but the idea that they all start....hmmmm... better not go there.
