I guess when you are sitting around waiting to be hanged you can say anything you want.
The time to say those things was BEFORE your country is invaded, and perhaps co-operating with all those useless nations inspectors would have been a beneficial as well.
If you walk into a bank and you stick your finger in your coat pocket and tell the teller you have a gun, the teller assumes you have a gun.
If you are leaving the scene of a crime and you stick your finger in your pocket and point it at the cops and tell them you have a gun, guess what? The cops will shoot you.
If you make it a point to make everyone think you have weapons of mass destruction. Guess what? You are going to get invaded and hung.
