What! Sanford is still the Gov!

I would have thought that prick would have done the right thing and resigned and crawl under a rock somewhere.

Once you cheat on your spouse and lie to your family, you are of no use anymore to anyone.

Maybe he can be replaced by a blind black man who cheats on his wife. Ya know like they did in New York.

Bad news, the homosexual is a republican!

He is separately elected, but he’s a two-term Republican. And “weird” is pretty accurate.

The bipartisan people of SC put too much faith in Strom Thurmond and Fritz Hollings for so long that when those two retired the people did not know whom to elect.

Well, I don’t think the Democratic Party would agree with you. As long as the person “cares” about the “common man”, he is acceptable to the “unAmerican democracy”. Even Michael Stanley Dukakis felt compelled in 1988 to tell the “debate” audience that he “deeply cares about people.”

Wierder than what we thought Sanford was pre-revelation.

To give you two examples about Andre Bauer: During his first term, he was pulled over by a Columbia PD officer for speeding down Assembly Street (one of the main drags near the Statehouse). And by speeding, I mean 60+ in a 35. When the cop got out, Bauer got out and started walking fast toward the guy, clearly angry. The CPD officer ended up drawing his weapon and ordering the lieutenant governor face-down on the ground, because he wouldn’t stay in his car.

A couple years later, Bauer got pulled for doing 100+ on an interstate up in the Upstate somewhere (might be Laurens County, not sure). Bauer got on the police radio in his state-supplied car and tried to tell the cop not to stop him (he used some BS callsign like “SC1” or some such). It didn’t work. He got the ticket.

As for Sanford, I’m not sure what’s happened to the guy. The affair, and his response to it, is showing a fundamental weakness and lack of discipline and stability that definitely shows him unfit for higher office—and I say this as a hardcore supporter of the guy up until last week. I’ve long been a Sanford booster, proud to have voted for him in 2002, and would’ve been completely behind him in 2012 should he have decided to run. But this whole meltdown—not just the affair, which is bad enough, but the whole bolting off to Argentina and this bizarre extended Oprah-esque apology world tour—has convinced me that the best thing for him would be to either resign or finish out his second and last term the best he can, and leave Columbia in January 2011 to obscurity somewhere. He could move to Argentina, he could move back to Coosaw and dig holes, I really don’t care. He needs to put his own head and his own life and his own marriage back together instead of doing anything else right now.
