Palin E-mails Show Infighting With Staff
CBS News ^ | July 1, 2009 | Scott Conroy & Susshannah Walshe

Posted on 07/01/2009 5:51:41 PM PDT by Al B.

Internal campaign e-mails exchanged three weeks before Election Day offer a rare look at just how frustrated then Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin had become with the manner in which top McCain campaign aides were handling her candidacy. The e-mails, obtained exclusively, also highlight the power struggle and thinly veiled acrimony that pervaded the relationship between Palin and the campaign's chief strategist, Steve Schmidt.

The episode in question began when an investigative report published on the left-leaning Web site Salon.com raised questions about Palin's relationship with members of the Alaska Independence Party (AIP) when she was mayor of Wasilla. The AIP's platform calls for a vote giving Alaskans the option to secede from the United States. It had already been widely known that Todd Palin was a registered member of the AIP from 1995 to 2002 and that Governor Palin had taped a recorded greeting at the party's 2008 convention.

On the morning of Oct. 15, Palin was aboard her campaign jet and en route to New Hampshire when she happened to catch a disparaging CNN segment that touted the Salon.com story, complete with a provocative graphic at the bottom of the screen reading, "THE PALINS AND THE FRINGE."

and how did that going for Obama work out for MIchigan?

some of those states are just hopeless ... and, regretably, VA is falling in line

There is a young dem kid about to go on trial for hacking Palin’s email.

Given that, it’s a lock that this leak of emails came from stevie schmidt, aka douche bag.

Don’t worry. It’s like running a marathon.

Persistence, strength of will and determination always wins in the end.

They are doing it too early, by the time we get to the hot and heavy election season she will be able to say “that’s old news.”

If the write up is accurate then Palin took Schimdt’s advice and dropped the matter.

Like a true politician, McCain can’t stand to look at himself in the mirror and realize the Presidency was lost because of HIM...What a piece of shit he is...I’m making a solemn proise here on FR that I will work my tail off to make sure this POS is not re-elected.

Well let these emails backfire on the RINO’s and dems...they prove Sarah has more backbone than the current & last 3 presidents all put together. The roll over game has never worked for America nor the Republicans. Call an Ace an Ace.

Shushannah Walshe, the “special” contributor, worked for Fux News and was a so-called imbed reporter assigned to report “objectively” on the daily happenings of the Palin campaign events. She spent 99% of her time writing sneering criticisms of Palin and simultaneously advocating for obama, as did all the Fux News “reporters”. Has Major Garret stopped trembling in awe every time he reports on obama as he did during the campaign?

If the Republicans ever put a candidate on a ticket I can vote for and Steve Schmidt works for that candidate, then I’m not voting for them. This guy is a loser.

How much did they work to sink McCain. McCain was doing well all by himself but I can’t no wonder if some of them work for the DNC.

I voted for Sarah.

I wish other conservatives had found some reason to get up and vote and to support the ticket.

Let this be a start lesson, ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

OK freepers, help me out here. I read the entire article. I disagree w/ Palin on the topic of discussion. I think Schmitd's advice on the matter was sound.

So acquiescing is "sound advice"? Just sucking it up and ignoring being misrepresented and/or smeared is "sound advice"?

Is the low life media trying to attack her still? Yes. But in this instance, provided the key issues are correct, this exchange suggests that she has judgment problems.

Please expound on what "judgment problems" you believe she has. Sounds to me that she's a stickler for the truth. A fine trait I'd say.

I like Palin, but I'm on the fence as far as a potus run and this article is not helping me out (yes, I know that's the point, thanks) but if the write up is accurate, that doesn't matter to me.

Uh-uh.

What I liked about it was...the gutsiness, the desire to fight, not to cede anything without an effort.

Granted, one always has limited resources that need to be allocated efficiently, and it might well have been a lost cause.

But I heard someone say that there are parts of Michigan that would have been attracted to people like her and her husband in ways that McCain would not have been able to emulate.

She came across as a fighter, not a loser.

Yeah. I live in Massachusetts, which IS a lost cause, and it is unbelievable to hear some of the people around here.

They are so blinded by ideology they cannot see what is happening.
