SABINA AMIDI, Special to The Jerusalem Post As the Iranian authorities warned the opposition on Tuesday that they would tolerate no further protests over the disputed June 12 presidential elections, a report emerged of the hangings of six supporters of defeated candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi.

Speaking after Iran's top legislative body upheld the election victory of incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, sources in Iran told this reporter in a telephone interview that the hangings took place in the holy city of Mashhad on Monday. There was no independent confirmation of the report.

Underlining the climate of fear among direct and even indirect supporters of Mousavi's campaign for the election to be annulled, the sources also reported that a prominent cleric gave a speech to opposition protesters in Teheran earlier this week in which he publicly acknowledged that the very act of speaking at the gathering would likely cost him his life.

"Ayatollah Hadi Gafouri said that the Imam [Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini] never wanted [current supreme Leader] Ali Khamenei to succeed him. He even went to say that the Islamic republic died the day the Imam did," one source said.

On Monday, witnesses said thousands of policemen and Basij militiamen carrying batons were deployed in Teheran's main squares to prevent any recurrence of the opposition protests. Drivers who so much as shouted "Allahu Akbar" or beeped their horns had their windows smashed by the Basiji and riot police.

I’m hoping that when Muslims are occupied killing off other Muslims, they will be less inclined to join together and start killing us off over here...

That’s fine by me...

I do not look at it that way. My desire if for Iran to be a free people, but that may not be possible in an Islamic state.

I have been told by Muslims that Democracy is not compatible with Islam. My feelings are that is dependent on where they are, and what flavor of Islam they practice.

Iran was Persia before Islam. The people of Iran were pretty Western under the Shah. They must not be happy living under the suppression of the Mullahs.

The current Iranian dictators are sponsors of terrorism and if they were out of power things would be better for us in the Middle East.

Iran was Persia before Islam.

Interesting tidbit. The word "Iran" is based on the word "Aryan". Persia became Iran in 1935, because the then-Shah was an admirer of Adolf Hitler.

From wiki-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_Empire

The Achaemenid Persian Empire (550–330 BC) was the largest empire of the ancient world and it reached its greatest extent under Darius the Great and Xerxes the Great — famous in antiquity as the foe of the classical Greek states (See Greco-Persian Wars). It was a united Persian kingdom that originated in the region now known as Pars province (Fars province) of Iran.

When did the religion of Islam begin?

Answer:

Islam began with the prophet Muhammad in the year 622 a.d. Before then it was Judaism and Christianity that existed. This is based on historical facts, not just on theological ideologies, which sometimes stray from historical records.

Let's put this in MSM-perspective....

Michael Jackson, Dead at 50

King of Pop Dies of Cardiac Arrest

MJ's kids in custody of Grandma

a report emerged of the hangings of six supporters of defeated candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi

Pitchman Billy Mays dead at 50

Farrah Fawcett loses fight with Cancer

That's about the "size" of the importance of Iran to MSM these days...Obama hasn't spoken about it since the above stories, so it isn't news anymore....

R.I.P., MJ, FF, BM, Iranians, United States.....the list just grows....

Persia became Iran in 1935

Iran has always been called Iran internally. "Persia" comes from the Greek name for the Parsi tribe, the first people to settle in Iran. Parsi became Farsi in Arabic because the Arabs lack a P sound.

The word "Iran" is based on the word "Aryan".

And the people of the region have been calling themselves that for over a thousand years. Hitler took it from them. Basically, Hitler wanted an "Iranian race" and even used an ancient Persian symbol, the swastika.

Hitler was sorely lacking in the originality category.
