Each Sunday afternoon in May, Gov. Mark Sanford and his wife hosted five other couples at the executive mansion for a spiritual "boot camp."
Topics discussed during the hour-and-a-half-long sessions included forgiveness and "not loving your wife as Christ loved the church."
The Culbertsons have a waiting list for their boot camps, which they’ve held for about four years.
They often hold the Bible study groups at their spacious colonial house overlooking Lake Katherine.
The Sanfords asked to take part and even offered the governor’s mansion as a meeting place.
Culbertson said the course is "pretty intense." He quizzes prospective participants and asks them not to start the course if they don’t intend to take it seriously.
"But they both committed to doing the work," he said, "and they both did all the work."
Besides Bible readings and prayer, the Culbertsons stage what they call a "date night," where spouses interview each other.
Culbertson said the boot camp is "not a marriage course, but marriages benefit from it."
"Because it challenges husbands and wives to talk about things eternal that typically we won’t do unless we’re in a structured environment," he said.
"So it’s to challenge you — in your spiritual life, in your walk with the Lord."

But after reading the last part where Culbertson doesn't think Sanford should resign.... I think Culbertson is just as caught up in the power grab as Sanford.
And I find it distasteful and disgusting.
IMO, Culbertson needs some remedial in the Scriptures.
Evidently this spiritual advisor thought nothing of dismissing their privacy.
A bit of publicity is more important than the people he was professing to help.

Sanford, according to his bio, is an Episcopalian. Therefore, he’s allowed all the carnal sinning known since Adam abandoned Eve for Lilith!

Agreed! Give him ten years of marriage with his mistress, and look at her surprise when he gets tired of the day-to-day problem solving and he leaves for a new “soulmate.”

Polygamy, except in certain cases where it was mandated by Mosaic Law, was something left up to the individual. You could have 1 wife as Isaac or 4 wives as in Jacob. It was individual choice.

And NONE of the polygamous marriages in The Bible was a happy one but rather given over to grief and bastardization.

It's because he deliberately misused State travel funds and went AWOL that he should "step down". If he hadn't been "caught" he'd still be charging his trips to the taxpayer.

Wow, then if Jacob had not had multiple wives then there never would have been the 12 tribes of Israel. So are you willing to re-think your position on good effects of polygamy?
I have head this thing about all polygamist marriages being bad in the OT but there may be two reasons for this:
1) It sounds good but is unsupported by facts.
2) Most marriages described in the OT were polygamist.
And without the Arabs we certainly would not have the technology we have today.
Personally I have no problem with polygamy (or polyandry), as long as it's voluntary for all parties, which clearly wouldn't be the case here. And polygamy wouldn't help a bit in the solving the rather huge problem, that this nutjob keeps throwing press conferences to share intimate details of his sexual and romantic and tortured internal emotional life with the entire world.
It's already reached a point where I don't think any South Carolina jury would convict his wife if she put a bullet between his eyes.
Exactly. But I think it’s also valid to focus on his repeated public performances in which he tells the whole world a lot more than we want to know about the details of his various relationships. And telling the whole world how his Argentinian lover is his “soulmate” in the same breath as telling the whole world he’s committed to saving his marriage, is just way, way over the top. He’s displaying massive mental instability that’s totally incompatible with being the governor of a US state. His wife should be trying to have him committed to a psychiatric institution.
