Analysis: Obama's swift stand on Honduran coup (ROFL)

WASHINGTON (AP) — Dealing with the first Latin American crisis of his presidency, Barack Obama sought a swift, clear response that would not be interpreted as U.S. interventionism in a region that loathes it.

So he condemned a coup in Honduras by turning to that most reliable standby: democracy.

"We stand on the side of democracy, sovereignty and self-determination," Obama said when asked Monday about the forced exile of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, a takeover that has drawn international criticism and unnerved a part of the world that has worked to shed itself of strong-arm tactics.

Here is paragraph 19:

“But there are still bigger problems in Honduras — the failed democratic institutions that led the nation to resort to a military coup. The conflict came about after a referendum Zelaya had called in defiance of Honduras’ courts and Congress, one seen as a way for him to stay in power beyond his term limit.”

This is the only paragraph, of 26 paragraphs, indicating that the military simply enforced Honduras’ constitution.

As Rush says, this was no coup.

Oops! AP's Ben Feller Claims Obama Voted Against Iraq War In 2002

Associated Press reporter Ben Feller needs a better copy editor to keep him from inventing history for Barack Obama. Near the end of a dispatch filed early Saturday morning on the president’s speech at Camp Lejeune on Iraq, Feller claimed:

The president who voted against the war as senator and ran against in his upstart White House bid said the Iraq conflict is one huge, painful lesson.

The vote authorizing President Bush to wage combat operations in Iraq was on October 11, 2002, and Obama wasn’t elected until 2004. Then Feller failed to note Obama’s "no" vote in the Senate on Bush’s successful surge of troops, although this may have been the most critical-sounding passage in his story:

Obama is in favor of “democracy, sovereignty and self-determination.”

I wonder if we could get some of that here at home.

As confirmation of that fact, the man designated as next-in-charge according to Honduran law is the man who is now in charge. He is of the same party as Zelaya.

It would be the equivalent of Joe Biden becoming president in the even Barack Obama were for some reason removed from office.

That does not happen with military coups.

If all of that were true of Obama he would support the actions of the Honduras congress, the courts and the military who carried out their orders.

Since it's not true of Obama, he really means the Marxist dictator whose neferious plot was thwarted.

Actually, I think it’s simpler than that. The coup was being attempted by the leftist president. He was calling a referendum to avoid the term limits written into the constitution and that the Honduran constitution explicitly made into criminal behavior. The Honduran Supreme Court and Legislature authorized the removal by the military. The military has an express constitutional role to protect the constitution, similar to Turkey.

Obama thinks the attempted presidential coup was a pretty cool move by a pretty cool guy. He’s just pissed the Honduran president’s coup did not work.

Ben Feller is the same guy who reported in the AP that Obama voted against the Iraq War in 2002, 2 years before being elected to the Senate.

And Now Ben Feller has absolutely no idea what the significance of a constitution is (the constitutional violation, the central issue, is not mentioned in his reporting).

How does a guy like been get a job like that? How does he keep it? Oh, yeah, he's an Obama suck-up, which = Employment Guarantee.
