Another Georgia Tech student was robbed at gunpoint early Monday, making him the 13th person to be mugged near campus since February.

The robbery occurred at 1:15 a.m. in the Home Park neighborhood between the northern edge of Georgia Tech campus and Atlantic Station, according to Atlanta Police Department Spokesman Officer Otis Redmond.

The student, whose name has not been released, told police he was approached by males in a dark SUV, with at least two of the robbers armed with handguns, police said.

He was struck in the back of the head with a gun and the suspects took his wallet and backpack containing schools books and other items, Redmond said.

It’s unknown how much money was taken, Redmond said. The victim refused medical treatment at the scene.

Georgia Tech Police also responded to the scene.

The robbery occurred in a residential area without surveillance video, Redmond noted. None of the suspects has yet been identified

Since Feb. 7, 12 armed robberies involving 13 victims have been reported in the neighborhoods surrounding Georgia Tech. All but two of the victims were Georgia Tech students. The other two were students at the University of Phoenix and Georgia State University, respectively.

None of the incidents happened on campus property but in nearby neighborhoods under the Atlanta Police Department’s jurisdiction.

Last week, Atlanta police announced three arrests in the May 4 robbery and shooting of Georgia Tech student Patrick Whaley. On June 10, police arrested Deangelo Love, 17, and Maurice Brown, 19, for that attack. They are being held without bond in the Fulton County jail on charges of aggravated assault, armed robbery and kidnapping. Love is also charged with several other charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Love and Brown were also indicted earlier this month in the kidnapping and shooting of Georgia State student Carsten Singh, also on May 4 near the Tech campus.

Police declined to identify the third suspect. He is being held on unrelated charges and has a warrant for the student’s shooting pending, Atlanta Police spokesman Officer Eric Schwartz said.

Redmond reiterated the APD’s recent announcement that it is increasing patrols in the Georgia Tech area to combat the problem, though he could not say how many additional officers from the already taxed police force are part of the plan.

Criminals appear to be concentrating on that area for pedestrian crimes, Redmond said.

“They’re like a dark cloud,” he said, adding that investigators are working to determine if its gang-related activity. “It’s a challenge for us to get to the meat and potatoes of it.”

He urged residents and students to use caution and avoid walking alone, especially in dimly-lit areas. In the event of a robbery, one should always quietly and quickly give the robbers what they want.

“You want to make it as short as possible,” he advised.

More garbage advice from the police

one should always quietly and quickly give the robbers what they want.

Suppose what they want is to kill you? Just goes to show that the police are corrupt apparatchicks more interested in protecting their turf than protecting the public. Can't have the public defending themselves against armed robbers can we? Might not need as many police. Get a gun - Learn to use it. Kill any "yout" that tries to rob you.

I wonder if deep in the story there’s some kind of description of the robbers. Black? Hispanic? White? We know they drive an evil SUV though.

“They’re like a dark cloud,”

Is that the only description of their ethnicity? Why would they tell us they’re driving an SUV but not give us their race?

We know what their race is without them telling us but come on!

Sheesh. Sounds like unrelenting pressure on the Georgia statehouse is in order - bet they’d listen to the NRA. This situation is UNSAT.

Well, there was a hint:

“They’re like a dark cloud,” he said

(I suppose that's racist.)

"...one should always quietly and quickly give the robbers what they want,..."

Baloney. One should always bust a cap in said robber's chest. Quickly, but not necessarily quietly. A dead robber will rob no more.

...told police he was approached by males...

Males, eh? Well, at least they were able to eliminate about 50% of the population as suspects. That should make the job of the police MUCH easier.

MY guess is, the victim told the police quite a bit more about the "males" in question, perhaps even some level of description, some "identifying characteristics" which might actually aid in their capture. I'm also guessing that said description, those "identifying characteristics", were deemed, shall we say, "socially incorrect", and were left out of the story by the reporter.

Looks like some folks need to arm themselves and stop this roving band of thugs. I wonder how many incidents are unreported?

Here's some excellent advice from "the old man" (an aging mobster) in the movie Miller's Crossing:

"Always put one in the brain".

Truly these are words to live by!

one should always quietly and quickly give the robbers what they want. Spoken like a true robber. No,, robbers, thieves and thugs are generally lazy. That is why they pick easy targets. That is why they don't work for a living. Massod Ayoob has some good books out. I have read several of them on self defense. He's a nationally known firearms/thug/police expert and he says robbers will kill you for zero reason. When you give them what they want, you are only making their job easier. http://www.amazon.com/Ayoob-Files-Book-Massad-F/dp/0936279168 There is a link to one of his books. Copy and paste the link or just google his name. His books are cheap now and they are well worth the read.

Well the urinal constipation has a strict editorial policy of not listing the race of black criminals, and listing the race of white criminals, so going by their rules the criminals were black.

“It’s a challenge for us to get to the meat and potatoes of it.”
BS, they KNOW who the gangs are.

The police say here also, 'Give the perps what they want.'
Since the odds are you are going to die anyway, I'd rather die knowing I did everything I could to defend my family and self.

It goes against the fundamental rules of police organizations to publically admit that you can do a better job of protecting yourself than they do. Concealed carry

You can see what the primary priorities of the Atlanta Police Department is from their own web page

to be revenue collecting agents and to provide taxpayer funded jobs to blacks.
