The California Senate on Monday approved a Democratic budget-balancing plan that faced a certain veto from Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as the state headed toward issuing IOUs for the first time since the 1990s.
The plan would use a combination of spending cuts and tax and fee increases to eliminate a $24.3 billion budget deficit, but Schwarzenegger repeated his vow to veto it.
"I think that they know I will never sign those kinds of things so why waste the time, why run out of time and then all of a sudden we have to hand out IOUs?" Schwarzenegger told reporters.
But Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, said Democrats would not accept the deep cuts in college aid, health care and welfare programs sought by Schwarzenegger

What’ll it take for the pols to get it??????
I dunno...total meltdown to finally shake up the sheeples?
BTW, why is Govenator going to veto this?
I’m glad he is going to do so, but doesn’t it represent a change for him? I’m east coast ... help me out FRiend
Whatll it take for the pols to get it??????

It will take the DemoRat liberals losing their spending money which in turn, will cost them votes. They are well on the way there now — businesses and individuals are LEAVING Taxifornia in droves, much to their advantage. Taxifornia is losing revenues and it will get worse because they are too radical and mindless to reduce spending and reduce taxation. But they are so POLITICAL that they won’t throw out the 10-12 million illegals which are costing Taxifornia about $15 BILLION per year right there. The rest is obvious.
Until they REALLY SUFFER (the libs) they will never change. Taxifornia is headed for the dung heap of liberal excrement piles by the day now. They are nuts.
Fire an adequate (large) number of state government employee parasites, most of whom are democrat party vermin.
Of course the Sacramento rats will lay off firemen, police, nurses, etc. first, to scare the sheeple.
Use the tool we gave you: Prop 187.
Caledonia has never had issue with going agaionst Federal Law before.
It will takes years for the FED to reinstate aide to Illegals.
They all sit around bitching they can’t raise taxes on me.
They are scared to death to make any cuts.
They will issue fireman IOUs but allows Illegals free medical care!
But Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, said Democrats would not accept the deep cuts in college aid, health care and welfare programs
Won't accept it eh? pfffffft
BTW do you know why Governor will veto - doesn't that represent a change for him? I thought he was all about getting a budget. Why does he not like this one?
Caledonia LOL!
Did Arnold actually get a backbone like the Terminator?
Methinks ARRRRnold got the message from the Ca. voters about no new taxes to fix the budget shortfall mess. Remember he was leaning with the Dems prior in seeking new taxes prior to their vote last month. SO he’s against any new tax increases and wants just spending cuts so that is the battle with the Sacto Legislatures.
Maybe Chinese ownership of everything? Alla youa stuff are berong to us.
“BTW, why is Govenator going to veto this?”
Raising taxes and calling them “fees” in order to bypass the 2/3 vote is illegal - unconstitutional.
If so, the "welfare checks" won't cash. Worthless...until the state redeems them on Oct 1st for real money.
The dims are playing with fire. They think the pubbies will blink...and they won't. Not this time.
This time, the dims will drive the car over the cliff...and they'll be STUNNED when it actually crashes.
You see, most of the dims are too stupid to realize this is real life and not some progressive board game. They checks REALLY WON'T CASH if they don't approve a balanced budget.
This is the scene where Arnold reboots himself after previously getting smashed up in that compactor. I guess the CA GOP is Linda Hamilton shooting shotgun blasts at the Dems (Robert Patrick) before Arnold pops Patrick with a tear gas shell.
Wholesale recall, or class action suit for failure to satisfy a serious fiduciary responsibility. One more time:
You work for us, dumbasses! Not the other way around.
Time for a serious cut in pay and back to a part time legislature.
It's not your money to "feel good" with!
CRASH! CRASH! CRASH!
Yes - exactly! Arnold has nothing to lose now in doing the right thing.
The rats have successfully used this approach in Colorado to bypass the state taxpayer bill of rights. The rat state supreme court has blatantly misinterpreted the TABOR amendment to allow tax increases. Perhaps the rats would like to take their chances with the courts. Unfortunately, the state may melt down before the courts can intervene. The rats may want to stop paying judges to force tax increases.
