CA school forces LGBT curriculum on students

The chief counsel with the Pacific Justice Institute is fighting for the rights of parents to opt out of a controversial curriculum.

San Francisco Bay-area Alameda Unified School District has approved a "lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender" (LGBT) curriculum for use with kindergarten through fifth-grade students. The curriculum is intended to deal with issues such as bullying and harassment.

Kevin Snider with the Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) says the board passed the curriculum despite the objection of 73 percent of the speakers from the community who attended the board meeting.

"The fundamental problem with the curriculum is it gives a monopoly to one segment of the population -- namely gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender persons -- on the issue of harassment," he contends. "And our position is that all students deserve safe schools, and that sexual orientation is only one of six protected classes. The other classes include race, gender, religion, disability, etc.; and so we have opposed this."

Alameda Unified School District is not allowing parents to opt their children out of the curriculum. PJI is sending opt-out letters to the district on behalf of parents. If the district rejects those letters, Snider says PJI will take the issue to court.

In a liberal Bay Area school district, 73% of the speakers were opposed to this? It really makes you wonder who, or what, drives the very liberal causes such as the gay agenda.

I personally know some Democrats and those who are more liberal. None of them were in favor of Porkulus, or the Cap and Trade/Cap and Tax monstrosity. And none of them favor socialized medicine. I have a feeling that the most radical liberal views on the issues are being forced through Congress nowadays. I have a feeling that mainstream Democrats or liberals are just as frustrated with Obama and Nancy Pelosi as many of us here are.

I can’t wait for the November 2010 elections to see if we can roll back the radical liberal Democrat juggernaut that has developed.

Why do they have to bring sexuality into it? I think an anti-bullying curriculum is great—they should just stress that kids who seem different shouldn’t be picked on or ridiculed. Sex should have nothing to do with it.

Exactly! Kids get bullied because they stand out or are different, regardless of what is the difference. Could be race, hair, behavior (sexuality), goth, punk, nerd, etc.

They’ve taken over. They run the schools and other local government offices. If 73% of the people speaking were against it and the school board still voted for it, there is something really freaking wrong with that...not to mention “opting out” is not allowed. Gays are selfish and tyrannical about their agenda in San Francisco.

My 82 yr old father who lived and performed in the Bay area in the past and absolutely loved the beauty it once had - cries every time he ears about what they’ve done to that town. If I lived there, I’d give it up and leave. Maybe I’m too easy.

I just posted this on another thread in a different context but I think it's relevant here.

We elect these to public office where we allow them to set public policy. Then we wonder why our teachers push it on our public school kids.

It's mainstream because the perception is that it's mainstream. Thirty years ago she would have been laughed out of the public square. Now she and her ilk have an entire month (out of 12) dedicated to perverts.

There weren't 12 other causes more important than this to dedicate a month to? I don't think we have a veteran's month, or a doctor's month, or a law enforcement month. Even lawyers have contributed more to society than the GLBT crowd.

It is getting late to try to take back our country and culture. But we can't give up and we have to fight.

We have a City Council member named Karin Uhlich (pronounced "yer lick"). She's a lesbian as far as I know.
