Korean War II (When Will US Recognize That Pyongyang Has Renounced the Armistace?) EXCELLENT READ
Wall Street Journal ^ | 30 June 2009 | Gordon G. Chang

Posted on 06/29/2009 5:50:19 PM PDT by AmericanInTokyo

By GORDON G. CHANG From today's Wall Street Journal Asia. At this moment the Kang Nam, a North Korea tramp freighter, is on the high seas tailed by a team of American destroyers and submarines and watched by reconnaissance satellites and aircraft. On board, its cargo could be plutonium pellets, missile parts or semi-ripe melons. In any event, Washington wants to know what is in the rusty ship's hold. Why the interest in this particular vessel? The Kang Nam is a "repeat offender" and known to carry "proliferation materials." As an unnamed American official told Fox News this month, "This ship is presumed to be carrying something illicit given its past history." United Nations Security Council Resolution 1874, unanimously passed on June 12, broadened the concept of illicit cargoes as far as North Korea is concerned. It prohibits Pyongyang from selling arms, even handguns. By GORDON G. CHANG From today's Wall Street Journal Asia. Shows some of the patent foolishness of the George W. Bush Administration over North Korea as well, in addition to this loon we have in the White House at present.

UPDATE: 29 JUNE 2009

WHY THE BIG NEWS MEDIA BLACKOUT OVER THE WHEREABOUTS AND SITUATION WITH THE KANG NAM 1 SHIP WHICH US NAVY WAS TRAILING AND WHICH WAS NEARING SOUTH CHINA SEAS AND STRAITS OF MALACCA?

News outlets from around the world have ceased giving updates and US government is not saying anything.

I suspect Obama has blinked and they don't want it to appear as such for fear of backlash. Any additional reports??

Here is the latest map on the DPRK ship's movements and relationship with Burma, in the past (last year and earlier this year) I am getting, from Japanese news sources:

If any Freeper needs some help on it, give a shout, but it should be pretty self explanatory.

Serious or sword rattling?

Here is an excellent summary from a Thai newspaper (Thailand!?), in English, just this morning our time:

Today's Must Read wsj.com Gordon G Chang author of 'North Korea Takes On the World' writes: At this moment the Kang Nam, a North Korea tramp freighter, is on the high seas tailed by a team of American destroyers and submarines and watched by reconnaissance satellites and aircraft. The Kang Nam is a ''repeat offender'' and known to carry ''proliferation materials.'' United Nations Security Council Resolution 1874, unanimously passed on June 12, broadened the concept of illicit cargoes as far as North Korea is concerned. It prohibits Pyongyang from selling arms, even handguns. There has never been a peace treaty formally ending the Korean War. On legal grounds, the US Navy therefore has every right to seize the Kang Nam, treat the crew as prisoners of war and confiscate its cargo, even if the ship is carrying nothing more dangerous than melons. But does America have the will to do so?

Its all over ‘cept when they decide to start shooting...

The fact that they could not hit the ground if they fell with that rocket of theirs...If they say they are shooting AT Hawaii...

Seems to me they actually would want it to work if it actually would...

So one could draw the conclusion that they’ve been trying to hit stuff all along in recent years, but have not been too successful in putting ordinance on target...

Seems to me they want to fight...

But unfortunately we have a leader who wants us to get a bloody nose first before they debate about a response to that successful attack...

Something is definitely out of whack here.

All this press attention, and then WHAM! it seems like the ship just fell off the earth. No reporting. No stories. No progress nor location. Sounds to me like a lot of people are shutting up both sides regarding this Kang Nam 1 ship from North Korea.....
