CAIRO -- They wouldn't be allowed to perform in Iran, but singers Joan Baez and Jon Bon Jovi are showing their support for protesters.

In videos carried on YouTube, the artists perform songs _ with a few lines in Farsi _ that call for peace.

Bon Jovi sings "Stand By Me" alongside Armenian-Iranian pop star Andy Madadian. The New Jersey rocker adds, in surprisingly good Farsi, the line: "Hand in hand, with one voice, you and me, countryman, your pain, my pain, be with me."

Gee, I wonder how Joan Baez and Jon Bon Jovi feel to be on the same side as conservatives in the fight for people's civil liberties.

She sure sounds tired. Or maybe it's the song. Wife says her Farsi is good.

Bon Jovi's a dopey liberal hump, but he seems like he tries to be a decent guy.

Joan Baez sings like a cat under a lawnmower.

Joan Baez sings like a cat under a lawnmower.

Compared to the Joan Baez of 1966, most people do.

Including, I have to sadly agree, the Joan Baez of 2009.

Makes me remember when I was little, well before 1966, and assumed that recordings were made by machine and not actual people. In this day of graphics chips, it might actually be possible to do that . . .

In fact, in the sense that they were able to take account of much of the artifacts and reproduce an ancient Caruso recording made without the benefit of electronics, that has sort of been done twenty years ago. But I shouldn't wonder if they were able, with modern software and hardware, to translate sheet music into a virtual vocal performance - possibly an impressive one . . .

..not a fan either but I wonder what “Stand by Me” &/or other 50’s American standards would sound like sung in Farsi?

I have Joan Baez's Christmas album, it's awesome, and give so much glory to Christ, it's very good. Good for those two, better leadership from them than our President.

Excellent Joan Baez Song about Jesus

and she has many more ...

Bon Jovi Live, it's my life, rocks !! Great theme for protestors
