Discussing disgraced South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a fellow Republican, said governors and other national leaders are expected to live by a higher standard because the culture of the nation can be hurt by their failings.
Seeing this family become healed is our highest priority, Romney said on NBCs Meet the Press.
At the same time, and not commenting particularly on Governor Sanford, people in public life ought to be held to a higher standard. I heard one former governor say, Well, everybody makes mistakes. Well, thats true.
But not all mistakes are the same. And not everybody is a governor or a senator or a president. And we expect [those] people to live by a higher standard, because what they do is going to be magnified, their families are going to be hurt more by what they do, the things they care about will be hurt, and the culture of the nation and the people who follow them will be hurt.

You're right, Mitt. We the people should hold our politicians accountable to a higher standard. However, in that case, you fail.
We need one new rule for our Presidents until they start acting like a President. “Sit down and shut up.”
The RINOs have never been so cheerfull about a GOP scandal.
Lying manipulative bottom feeding scumbags.
When I look at Mitt Romney, there is something about him that just isn't right.
Governor Romney is AGAINST socialized medicine
and FOR conservative conventional marriage. You betcha.
Shut up, Romney. If you had any guts whatsoever, if you weren’t a complete, walk-on-eggshells puke during your campaign, if you had been even partially willing to stand up for right and wrong, and tell the truth, we wouldn’t have a communist in the White House right now.
So shut up. You had your chance (chances) and you let all of us down. You are a lightweight phony.
Mitt has nice hair.
An Epic Failure expounding on someone else’s Epic Failure.
Could be fake but I try to find the good in all people. Mitt doesn’t have much to work with so....he has nice hair. ;)

Unless its Massachusetts. That magical happy land is exempt :)
Oh for corn's sake ... this is the worst way I have ever heard it put. The " 'culture of the nation' can be hurt"?? How about our very security??!! Mitt, it's not a *higher standard*, it is that elected officials are endowed with the Public Trust, it it the first obligation of the citizen/voter to determine whether or not the candidate is TRUSTWORTHY.
This is why the past of any candidate is fair game to investigate, this is why there is no *privacy zone* for those seeking or elected to office. This is why we, the citizenry, have the right to know the background, history, character of our officials. If you don't want to deal with it, if you don't want this stuff splashed all over the media, if you want to keep your spouse in the dark while you betray the promise/vow, then YOU DON'T SEEK PUBLIC OFFICE. It is as simple as that.
Ummm..., this cult group member needs to stay away from the GOP... perhaps he could try the Democrats...
They seem to appreciate cult groups over there.
national leaders are expected "to live by a higher standard because ... the culture of the nation" can be hurt by their failings.
Oh please. See Ben Franklin, etc. Romney's comment is an example of hubris. As if the culture of the nation is determined by its leaders. The reverse might be argued, "decadent people elect decadent leaders," but to contend that leadership establishes the moral quality of those who are choosing the leaders is just flat out error.
You said — When I look at Mitt Romney, there is something about him that just isn’t right.

Ummm..., perhaps that “Mormon Missionary” look... :-)
Don't know what you see, but the majority of Americans looked at King Obama and he looked like a savior? Looks sure are deceiving, aren't they.
