Most Americans Want Sotomayor on Court
Washington Post ^ | June 28, 2009 | Jon Cohen and Robert Barnes

Posted on 06/28/2009 7:00:42 AM PDT by La Lydia

A sizable majority of Americans want the Senate to confirm Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, and most call her "about right" ideologically, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. Senate hearings on Sotomayor, President Obama's pick to replace retiring Justice David H. Souter, begin in two weeks, and 62 percent of those polled support her elevation to the court. Sotomayor, 55, is currently a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit in New York.

If confirmed, Sotomayor would become only the third female justice and the second on the current nine-member court. But there is no gender gap in support for her, with men and women about equally likely to be on her side...The telephone poll was conducted June 18 to 21, among a random national sample of 1,001 adults. The results have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.

"Most Americans" from a sample of 1,001? More propaganda and nonsense from the Wash Post.

Yeah, and the sample comes from the DC area. They never bother to call anyone in Texas, Kentucky, or Montana.

Most Americans don’t even know who she is....and can’t name their governor.

But they’ll swoon over this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090628/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_jackson

Most polls are taken from small samples. They also are more often than not, taken in areas of high democrat population. That is why on most issues, they are not an acurrate assesment of the people.

Even if this sere true, and it’s not, it’s irrelevant. The USSC is not a popularity contest.

More propaganda and nonsense from the Wash Post.

They would call it "creative" polling.

About right ideologically? I’d like to hear their idea of her ideological views. I would bet that 90% couldn’t articulate her views at all.

Please. "Most Americans" don't even know who she is, let alone what she is about. Furthermore, they wouldn't care if they did.

I give up.

Let me guess. They polled 70% Obama voters, 5% McCain, and 20% independent.

We need to consider the possibility that the "everybody voting" thing isn't gonna work out.

It’s stunning, eh? To the best of my knowledge, he didn’t send a note to the families of Farrah F. and Ed M. either. What could be the difference....other than the fact that those folks aren’t “African American?”
