LIMA - When two men knocked on Charesa Smith's door at 5 a.m. wanting to use her phone last winter, she feared the worst.
She knew about a rash of home invasion robberies happening around the county.
Smith and her husband never let them inside, where they have three young children. They called the Sheriff's Office, and the men left.
"It broke the safe barrier I had around myself and my house. I felt as if I was violated. They never did anything, but it felt like it could have gotten nasty," she said.
That incident was enough to spur Smith and her husband to obtain their concealed carry licenses. She now feels safer, she says, especially since she spends a lot of time out alone with her children, who range in age from 10 months to 7 years old, running to the store and appointments.
Best citizens
Farmer said he sees people in class from all walks of life, from doctors and lawyers to factory workers, teachers and preachers.
Farmer, a former police chief who is also a police firearms trainer, said people with concealed carry licenses are among the most law-abiding. He said he rarely came across people with their concealed carry licenses during traffic stops, saying it's because they follow the law to begin with.
Allen County Sheriff Crish said people with their concealed carry licenses typically are the most law-abiding citizens. Otherwise, they would not have been issued a license.
"We're not worried about those individuals," he said.

AMEN and thanks for the post.
The eight Republicans that voted for Cap and Trade aren’t or they just think Barry will take our guns.
The GOP needs to be purged of people like those 8.
(even Kucinich voted against cap and trade!)
What? You mean it did not turn into the wild west? (/sarc) Oh, those loony liberals with their scare tactics.
I lived in Florida when the Castle Doctrine was about to be approved and that is all one read about it from the loony left. The loons surmised that all of Florida would become one big OK Corral.

Davis said the patrol occasionally comes across concealed carry license-holders who forget to notify the trooper or who are intoxicated.
“Those scenarios are alarming to us,” he said.”
Anytime a police officer is dealing with someone that is intoxicated, they are dealing with someone that “could” be a threat. I think it's disingenuous on their part to state that concealed carry permit holders are in any way “more dangerous” because they are less likely to be in that situation. As to forgetting to mention they are permit holders, that shouldn't even be a requirement.
The majority of the tiny fraction of a percent of concealed carry permit holders that have run afoul of the law have been misdemeanor violations of how they carry or transport their weapon in a vehicle. Some of the restrictions are impractical and unnecessary.
Finally, the anti’s finding one example of a permit holder shooting a cop during a traffic stop are probably ignoring some facts contributing to that tragedy. I'm not aware of the incident, but I know there were several police officers around the country last year that allegedly committed homicide. Perhaps we're doing a better job with concealed carry training and screening than we are civil servants?
Fearing the law abiding...
Says bunches about those two doesn't it.

And Ohio State patrol cops use that “CC license holders must notify us during a traffic stop” to search the vehicle, looking for a violation—any violation—of any law in order to confiscate the weapon. Not wearing your seatbelt? Your gun will be confiscated.
AFAIK, the Texas DPS does not do anything like that. Other than in a few big cities, most of the local police and sheriff's deputies treat it as a pretty routine thing. They do ask where you have the weapon concealed.
Of course in Texas *any* motorist stopped could legally have a concealed handgun in the vehicle, since there is a "traveling" exemption to the general prohibition on concealed carry. I'm not aware of any increase in shooting of officers since the law was changed to define traveling" as being in a vehicle, going somewhere. The exemption was already in the law, but the local DA's, the courts and the police had evolved some restrictive requirements, such crossing at least two county lines and even an overnight stay. Worse the requirements were not uniform and were constantly changing.
I still can’t believe Kucinich voted against it. But a whole series of DUmmies did cause it didn’t go far enough in their eyes.
Meanwhile, in the welfare capital of America, people who don’t work are walking into my store crying cause the sun isn’t out and it’s going to rain as they continue to sit on their asses and be unproductive. But since tomorrow’s Monday, they’re excited cause the mailman will be delivering more of our money to them.
What a country......
Try to find a local range with one for rent. Try before buy is a Good Idea.
Although I confess I had not fired one like my principal carry weapon before buying it. Not many ranges rent EAA Witness polymer compacts, nor even the CZ-75 it is based on.
Wow, I just sat down at the computer and for some reason was thinking about attorney Tim Smith. Checked FR and saw this at the top of my ping list.
Tim Smith was the lawyer in Cincinnati that was instrumental in getting concealed carry passed in Ohio.

The only time a licensed CCW holder has to notify is IF they are carrying. If they are NOT carrying, they don’t have to say anything per Ohio code 2923.12 Carrying concealed weapons.
